Sound & Vision’s Mike Mettler interviewed Nick Mason at Hayden Planetarium in NYC at the Capitol Records launch of Why Pink Floyd. The November issue of the audiophile magazine will feature the fruits of his labour!

Here is an excerpt…

“This is one case where the record company got it right.”

So assessed Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason last night at an exclusive launch party at the Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Mason was addressing the crowd about EMI’s massive Why Pink Floyd? campaign before our select group was ushered up into the Hayden Planetarium to experience the “interplanetary playback” of a previously unreleased performance of The Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety at Empire Pool at Wembley in London on November 16, 1974. The initial installments of the Why? campaign — Discovery editions of 14 remastered albums (and a collected Discovery box set), plus The Dark Side of the Moon Experience Edition, Immersion box set, and 180-gram vinyl — are in stores today. And Mason is totally correct in his assessment: They’re extremely well done, and absolutely worth your attention.

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason is attending the Goodwood Revival 2011 event which takes place tomorrow and Sunday (17th and 18th September 2011). Nick is an avid collector of vintage cars and modern ones alike and has even appeared on BBC 2′s Top Gear program in which he brought along his Ferrari Enzo and a few copies of his Inside Out book!!

However, Nick doesn’t like to just keep his collection in climate controlled hanger’s under velvet covers to keep the dust off and preserve. He likes to go mental in them and race around racetracks and show them off in the fashion that their designers intended them to be!

Nick will be available to sign copies of his co-authored book Passion For Speed at the festival so, if you are in the area, pop along and say hi to Nick Mason! He can be found at 11am and 4pm this Saturday and Sunday September 17 and 18 at the Grand Prix Legends stand, number 223-224

Pink Floyd Live 8

Pink Floyd Live 8

Saw a very odd story indeed today on a website called Business Reivew in which they say, “At a press conference announcing the Rock the City festival, D&D East Entertainment officials have stated that the legendary Pink Floyd might hold a concert in Romania, next year, according to website realitatea.net. The organizers are, however, currently negotiating with the band.”

I find that highly unlikely even in light of Nick Mason’s recent radio interview on BBC 6 Music in which he said he would like Pink Floyd to get back together and play a concert for a special occasion, much like Live 8.

Pink Floyd have not played in Romania before although Roger Waters has performed in Russia in the past a few times. I find it highly unlikely that they would play in Romania!

Anyway, what do I know! Please do leave a comment below to share your thoughts about this story and where you would ideally like to see Pink Floyd perform a concert in future! You never know what could happen!
