Schaffner (p.19): "Following a brief stint on bass in another local band, The Hollering Blues [sic; note 'g'], Syd Barrett was left to regale friends at parties solo with the songs of Lennon and McCartney and whimsical ditties like 'The Effervescing Elephant' that comprised his own first attempts at songwriting".

Fitch (p.143): "Hollerin' Blues, The - Early band name used by Roger Barrett, John Gordon and Clive Welham (1960). This band practiced in Roger Barrett's house. Primarily played cover tunes.
Concerts: In 1964, some concerts were performed under this name with the following line-up:
Barney Barnes (keyboards piano vocals)
Roger Barrett (guitar)
Pete Glass (harmonica)
Steve Pyle (drums) [NB He was also in Those Without with Barrett]
Ken Waterson (vocals harmonica maracas)
