Orchestral or 'symphonic' Floyd?

Post by CharlieBoy »

After the recent eclipse in the US, Sky News had a review 'special' of their coverage which was a ball-ache to watch as it was fronted by little girly whirly Kay Burley. However the sound track was magnificent! Orchestral versions of many tracks from DSOTM, especially Eclipse.

A quick Googling showed me that there is an orchestral disk of the album; BUT there were also several snatches of Shine On which I couldn't find.

I have to say that they sounded great and I fancy delving into this a bit.
Does anyone have any knowledge/list of such orchestral versions of PF's music?
I'll be grateful for a few pointers. Cheers!

All I could find is David Palmer and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
It's up on YouTube. https://youtu.be/LKS6t6Z5E7g Shine On You Crazy Diamond is on here, but I couldn't bear listening to their take on "Run Like Hell"! So I didn't investigate further.
Although I imagine Shopping Mall magicians would find that version appealing.
It could have the things you are looking for. Hope the link below!

there;s one produced by Youth (same as endless river), called Us and Them, with a cover by Roger Dean (Yes).

I used to own it, from back when CDs were it and you went to the record store to buy SOMETHING (usually whatever closest to your taste you could find), and might have actually thrown it out at some point.

Thanks for the info, guys.
I did see Youth's name as I Googled about - will give it a try.
