What with the publicity around the new Eric Clapton documentary, renewed discussion of his racist past etc, it only just occurred to me that Clapton must surely have been an inspiration behind the 'Pink' character in The Wall (along with Barrett and Waters obviously)
I mean 'In the Flesh' almost directly quotes from Clapton's most famous racist mid 70s rant doesn't it?
I guess Clapton accepted it as fair comment, obviously he went on to play with both Floyd and Waters. And they'd made a similar journey from counterculture heroes of the 60s London 'underground' into household names/ rock aristocracy.
Plus I suppose The Wall is ultimately a humanist concept and sympathetic to the Pink character, an exploration of things that can go wrong with people...

Re: Pink Clapton
I have not seen any comments from either Waters or Clapton on this one.
Interestingly, there were some Waters-Clapton Pink Floyd related stage reunions in 2005-2006. Here is their acoustic version of Wish You Were Here from 2005, and a version of Comfortably Numb (with Nick Mason too!) from 2006.
