I'm not.
On one hand, without The Final Cut, Gilmour, Wright, and Mason wouldn't have decided to leave the group. That was probably the straw that broke the camel's back for them.

Now, I know some of you aren't fond of the Gilmour-era works, but I see that phase as the band finding themselves again and starting over from scratch. Would you rather see the band pulling through another album in bad blood or finding themselves at peace with their last 2 albums?

But on the other hand, I'm surprised The Final Cut came out as well as it did considering the tension between the members. It shows that the band had a good work ethic despite what went on behind the scenes. They struggled to balance quality music with band politics and out came a mixed bag of results. Like I've stated before, it's not one of my favorite Floyd albums, but it has its moments and it's better than a lot of other artists' worst material.

I'm still wondering why a vast Pink Floyd fansite has a "hate thread". :?

Seriously guys, if you don't like an album just don't comment on it, don't spew hate among listeners, it's music for god's sake !

I don´t get it either, especially when we are talking about a work of art like TFC album.

Ironic considering the number of people who go out of their way to bash anything post Waters and Gilmour related.

its certainly no work of art

Just to clarify. This forum has featured an album/period where we discuss the featured album/era for a period of time, then it is all transferred to this section. When the Final Cut was the featured album/era, a certain amount of negativity started, so it was all directed to this thread instead. Strange, because right now PULSE is the feature, and it has not inspired as much negativity.

Perhaps people just don't like the album or the negativity got too much for some and they left the forum! <.8.>

It's widely perceived as a Roger Waters solo album and that's effectively what it was. The other guys were the 'back up band', and the material that had often raised it's head in Floyd albums about Roger's father finally took centre stage. I can only review it as I felt at the time it was released. It didn't measure up to the previous four albums, but it was still a damn good piece of work. For some reason my eldest son particularly treasures it.

Waters-music without the Gilmour-filter is just as boring as the Gilmour-music without the Waters-filter.
They were each others worst enemy, as well as their best friend.
The chemistry between the twine were the catalyst ...

Good ideas, but I think Final Cut Haters should stop wasting their time on this forum anyway...

BTW, same thing for:
  • Division Bells Haters
    AMLoR Haters
    David Gilmour Haters
    Roger Waters Haters
    Dogs of War Haters
    etc.

And the same applies to:
  • Final Cut Haters Haters
    Division Bells Haters Haters
    AMLoR Haters Haters
    etc.
:P

Maybe it's good to have this quarantine topic
for people who just can't appreciate a good classic album like 'The Final Cut'. :P

Most of them are just told by Gilmour not to like this album. :P
I guess they secretly listen to it, hoping they won't get caught.

As far as uninspired solos on this album goes...have not read the whole 4 pages of posts so it may already have been noted...but my guess is Dave slapped them out because the album didn't interest him all that much in the first place. Just my opinion...proceed to ignore it.

Bump!
I don't hate this album per se, just don't like it either.
It was worthy of Roger to use his position to speak out against the shamelessly opportunistic way Thatcher used the Falkland War to whip up jingoism to boost her own flagging popularity, and to also comment on how war affects individuals and families. There were VERY few dissenting voices in the media or popular culture.
But encasing the message in lead-booted pomp rock kinda defeated the object

Dave really did just phone the solos in as if he couldn't be bothered, and that's half the reason it's such hard going.
The best track is "Two Suns In The Sunset". Did any members of Floyd actually play on that? It doesn't sound like it. The small amount of electric guitar is just chords and could well have been done by Rog. Nice sax by Raf Ravenscroft, he of "Baker Street" fame.
