Talk about anything in here from the price of tea to the state of the economy!

Best and worst of 2009 and the decade

Post by moom »

So... what were the absolutely best things about 2009 in particular and 2000s overall in your life and, in particular, on NPF :D ? Were there any big issues as well?

Certainly, creating the site and the forum were some of the major things for us as users and fans :D

Other than this, in my life best things were getting a dog, finding a REALLY great girlfriend, some great music, seeing some really awesome places, stuff and people. For example, songwriting, going to Paris, Serena aqua-park in Helsinki.

Worst moments were failing at universities - TWICE -, disappointments in some close people, seeing some awful events, like a big riot here in 2007.

Worst would be this horseshit:

Another example of the BNP trying to argue modern issues but still sounding like thick-headed pub carpark bullshit.

in my life
the best things: my Dad got a cool new girlfriend named Pam, I fell in love with Pink Floyd/Roger Waters 2002 and became a fan of there music, I was on the swim team, track team and cross country team, I had a real boyfriend, I became an adult, I moved to Oregon, I found God, I made some cool friends along the way, and I moved in with a neat couple.

the worst: I got sick and had to drop out of school, I was picked on in school, My Grandmother died, 9/11, I had a bad break up with my first boyfriend and found out a friend of mine was not really a friend at all.

The worst thing that happened to me in the past decade is having a cancer in 2001, the best was beating it. Though there were a lot of other good and bad things in my life nothing can top that.

Henno New years day 2000:

Just finished college the previous may after 5 years
Just started work the previous august.
Young, carefree and single.
Living 1/2 km from work in lodgings.
Innocent and full of 'meh'

Henno New Years day 2010:
Still working, just about, 10 years later
Married to my gorgeous wife for 6 years.
Has 5 great children.
Finishing arrangements to buy our house, hopefully for the right price.
Has gradually become more and more cynical but interested in the way the world works.

Pluses music wise:
have seen this decade Rog twice, Mike Oldfield, Neil Young, Pixies, James, Prodigy, magic numbers, madness, brian wilson, sea sick steve, super furries, RHCP, KOL, aussie floyd many times, plus many many others if i try to remember hard enough... oh and discovering NPF of course

Aims for next decade:
to see David somewhere, to see Porcupine tree, to actually do a weekend festival camping again....

All in all the naughties have been a great decade for me. My life has direction and meaning.

Roger, as always you put a dot in the "i" :D

Actually, that shit is misspelt - Otsib, not Otib. "(is) Looking (for)"

it's been a strange decade. lots of highs and lows for me personally.

for the year my "worst" was having my position at work eliminated after 8 years with the company. the "best" was only being out of work for 60 days before i was able to get another gig in my field at 2/3rds the pay! yay for me. at least i'm working. i guess the bad economy has lowered my expectations (and standard of living) a bit. :)

for the decade, my "worst" was having a guy slip ghb into my drink at a bar and blacking out only to awake sometime later in the evening behind the wheel of my car with a cop shining his flashlight at me through the driver's window. it's a long and sorted tale that i won't recount in full now (though i suppose i would at length later if anyone's interested) but suffice it to say that it all involves a car crash followed by a long court battle, blood samples and a number of polygraph exams.

the "best" of the decade for me was sucessfully getting through all of that in 2001 and going on to make a good living doing what i love (well, at least until this year!), get a good car, meet my girlfriend and move into a nice little apartment near the coast and generally being happy with where i'm at. also one great thing about this decade for me is the internet. having a place like npf to come to has really been great. i've been posting here long before myspace and facebook and i still enjoy coming here to see what's happening.

like i said, it's been a strange decade. i wish everybody great happiness and success in the next!

Oh yeah... dodging the bullet on Kidney Cancer, best.
Having a kidney removed due to a calcified Type 3 Bozniak Cyst, worst.

Getting divorced in 2004, worst.
Getting remarried (to a different spouse) in 2006, best.

Best of the next decade: Retiring at age 56!!! in seven years!!!
