Anyone been to the show yet?

Post by snifferdog »

Now that Roger's tour has come to Europe, have any NPF-ers been to the show? What did they think of it?

I'm still waiting for my 2 shows which will be Kraków and Gdańsk (3rd and 5th of August). But concerning what I saw on youtube videos (I did analyse almost every show) I realized that during this tour Roger repaced 9 live vocals with prerecorded tracks. He is lip syncing even comfortably numb now! I wonder is there something bad going on with his voice ?? Whole show playback. I couldn't wait to hear Last Refugee live and now it looks like I will stand in front of the man himself pretending to be singing. I will go because I love his message and his music but I just can't stand it.

I was at Roger's two Dublin shows last week and loved every minute of both. The first night, we "forgot" to get to our seats and ended up standing within about 10ft of the stage for the whole show 8) I'm still pinching myself about getting this unexpected chance to be so near the stage.

The second night we sat and got to enjoy the show from a different angle. I think most people who go to the shows know that it's questionable how "live" the whole thing is. It doesn't bother me because the whole thing looks and sounds fantastic - it is a feast for the eyes and the ears. Dublin's 3 Arena is smaller than some of the other venues Roger has been playing in so we didn't get all the special effects; just the pig and the orb and the lasers. Still, it was a fantastic spectacle and at times all I could do was gawp at what was going on. SimpleDumbPilot who's an older NPF-er was beside me for the two shows and he was blown away by the atmosphere in the place.

There was also a surprise extra for the Irish audiences on both nights. Roger's rendition of the old chestnut that is Danny Boy. I filmed these with my phone but they came out reasonably well for what they are. I wish I'd started filming a bit earlier on the first night because Roger was struggling to read the chords/notes written on the piece of paper stuck to the stage in front of me. Both performances have a touch of an Irish pub at closing time feel to them. The second video is the better of the two if you can only take so much Danny Boy. Judge for yourself how good Roger's voice is..

Went to New York last year to see RW which was before he'd announced any dates outside the USA and Canada. Was a fantastic show so went back 2 weeks later to see him in Boston.

Looking forward to seeing it again this Saturday in Birmingham.

I have a couple of spare tickets for the Birmingham show if anyone is interested. Block 2 lower level which I think is the best viewing point having seen the show twice.

Let me know.

Great show tonight, good special effects and atmosphere. The difference between the RW spoken voice and the 'singing' voice was very noticeable; the phoney Yorkshire accent and Trump rant(s) made a few chuckle.

No major surprises in the set list ... loved the Animals segment and will listen again to the original album and live 'boot' on the way home.

It was a great show in Brum last night and I really enjoyed it. My only issue is Rog on his soap box - the poor little socialist. You had all the anti Trump stuff, you had another brick in the wall complete with 'school kids in orange boiler suits and hoods on, you also had the 'Resist' statements during the interval and Rog with his hands in Chains like he was being held in a prison and then wearing the pig mask. He finished off at the end of the concert with his pro Palestinian rants. So come on Rog we are hear your music not to listen to you poor little socialist rants

I went to the Hyde Park show. Loved it !

Highlights for me were, and I don’t want to give away too many spoilers were Welcome to the Machine and the Animals section.

Really enjoyed the songs from the new album aswell. Would have liked more songs from his solo albums, but minor criticism for what was an excellent show.

As an aside, and really for World Cup and England football fans, they will be using Rogers Hyde Park stage and screens to show the England v Croatia semi final !

All these posts about a great show etc

Does it not concern you that he's miming / lip syncing at least 10 songs

A pretty fair forgery springs to mind

I was put off by the miming myself. I was tempted to go to Brum, and would have done if it all had been live. What I've heard of the concerts (and the comments here) suggest that the sound is excellent at the concerts, the band and arrangements fantastic, but for me I want to see live singing.

What bothered me about the show when I saw it in Brum, was that Roger hardly did anything, and it was too heavy on Gilmour based tracks. If he had thrown in some songs like Set The Controls, or something off The Final Cut, or some more solo tracks, it'd be more palatable. It felt more than a Pink Floyd tribute band, than seeing Roger Waters.

he doesn't do anything apart from walk around with his hands in the air, he doesn't play bass as the bass player is playing bass stood behind him , he mimes on stage

so basically all your paying for is to the pretty fair forgery walk about with his arms in the air mincing around on stage

At least with The Wall tour, he was miming to an album that is majority him. This tour is definitely is his most un-inspired and, to be honest his most boring.

I'm happy to watch Roger "mincing about" on the stage because I'm getting to see/hear some of my favourite songs performed well in a nice arena with great sound. It's not a concert but it's a show with spectacular visuals as well. Anyone who doesn't want to go can stay at home. I had a blast.
