Pink Floyd are to have their own official radio station in the USA on the Sirius XM satellite radio network. It is due to launch on 25th May 2012 and is available in the USA and Puerto Rico.

Roger Waters announced the news in an interview with Jim Ladd, the DJ who featured in Roger’s 1987 solo album Radio KAOS. The interview was broadcast last night in the USA.

Not only will the Pink Floyd radio station broadcast the entire back catalogue of the band including solo albums, but it will also feature interviews, rarities and broadcast concert recordings too! A bootlegger’s dream come true if the material turns out to be previously unavailable!

Roger Waters said, “I can’t think of a better home for the Pink Floyd catalogue, and all the solo stuff, than SiriusXM,” Waters said in a statement. “How cool for all our fans and what a great way to introduce the work to new generations of listeners.”

“The Pink Floyd Channel” will be curated and hosted by SiriusXM host Jim Ladd, the legendary free-form DJ who has been conducting interviews with Pink Floyd since their first visit to the United States in 1979.

Pink Floyd has earned an international audience and created some of the most distinctive rock music the world has known and this channel will bring that diverse and distinctive catalog of music only to SiriusXM subscribers,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM.

The new station will be having a trial run when it takes over the existing Deep Tracks station on channel 27 for a few days. It will run all Memorial weekend starting 25th May 2012 at 12pm Est to May 28th 2012. After this trial run, it will then get its own channel broadcast 24/7. The channel will then return on June 29th to July 8th on Sirius Channel 142 and XM channel 43. It will be available online full-time on channel 802 and for an extended period for smartphones and mobile devices on the Sirius XM Internet Radio App. Confusing? I think so!!

“The Pink Floyd Channel” is the latest example of SiriusXM’s original artist-branded channels dedicated to iconic musicians. In addition to its current lineup of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Radio, Elvis Radio and Radio Margaritaville, SiriusXM has previously offered channels such as “Paul McCartney’s Band on the Run Radio,” “Elton!,” “The Who Channel,” “Mandatory Metallica,” “Paul McCartney’s Fireman Radio,” “Rolling Stones Radio,” “AC/DC Radio,” “Led Zeppelin Radio,” “Miles Davis Radio,” “The Spectrum of John Mellencamp,” “Radio R.E.M.,” “Coldplay Radio,” “ABBA Radio,” “Jay-Z Nation,” “Garth Brooks Radio,” and “Duran Duran’s Red Carpet Radio.”
