The Madcap Next Door – What Living Next Door to Syd Barrett Was Like

This article considers some of the points raised in an article published in the Mail on Sunday tabloid newspaper in Great Britain. It sheds light on the life of Syd Barrett once he returned home from London to Cambridge. It seems Cambridge was not as quiet and idyllic as one may have thought! Discuss on forum. ———————————————————————–     Article from Mail on Sunday If an article published by the British tabloid newspaper The Mail on Sunday – and the gentleman who wrote the story – are to be believed, then it would seem Roger Keith (Syd) Barrett was not quite the quiet recluse (who lived at number 6 St Margaret’s Square in Cambridge for the final 25 years of his life) that everyone thought he was. Former next door neighbour David Sore from number 7 (it’s a cul de sac so 7 is next door) apparently shared some of his memories...

On An Island Re-Release (USA) Review

On An Island Re-Release (USA) Review

David Gilmour and Richard Wright performing at David’s 60th Birthday party. David Gilmour’s third solo album On An Island (OAI) was first released on his 60th birthday back on 6th March 2006. Indeed, he celebrated his 60th at Porchester Hall in London at which he performed some songs with his 2006 touring band before they went off to travel the world touring the new album. It is therefore slightly surprising that, less than 9 months later, the album is re-released! This time though with a separate bonus DVD. Naturally, Gilmour used the media to his advantage to publicise the first offering of OAI, the first solo effort for many years, which included magazine interviews, radio interviews and, of course, TV and the internet! One such event for the internet was the AOL Session he did in April 2006. These sessions, along with a performance from the Royal Albert Hall and...

Year in Review: Roger Waters & David Gilmour 2006 By Andrew Beale and azza200

2006 has been a busy year for our favorite Floydians. David Gilmour and Roger Waters both launched a tour this year, collaborating with other members of Pink Floyd and some old friends. Nick Mason and Rick Wright were very involved this year. Nick played a few shows with Roger, and Rick played keyboards throughout David’s tour. Jon Carin was quite busy, playing as a full time member of both David and Roger’s band. I (Andrew Beale) unfortunately could not have made it to one of Gilmour’s concerts, so I got some help from azza200 to write this article who saw David twice on his tour. David Gilmour Dates: David played Continental Europe, North America, and the UK on his tour. He only played 36 dates in total, a select few dates compared to Rogers numerous. The venues tended to be smaller and the tickets were expensive. Some problems with this...

An Interview With The Nice’s Davy O’List By Keith Jordan & Davy O’List

An Interview With The Nice’s Davy O’List By Keith Jordan & Davy O’List

Davy O’List formerly from the band The Nice (with ELP keyboardist Keith Emerson) and The Attack is a man of many talents and has worked with some great people throughout his career. Whilst on tour with The Nice as part of the Jimi Hendrix Experience Tour between November and December 1967, Davy helped out with lead guitar for The Pink Floyd when Syd Barrett was unable to play due to drugs, symptoms of schizophrenia and perhaps his “no rules” attitude to life! Shortly after in January 1968, David Gilmour joined Pink Floyd. Davy has been kind enough to do an interview with NPF about his past and his future.  He is currently working on his new bands self-titled album “Second Thoughts” (as of 2006). Grab yourself a coffee and enjoy the trip! ——————————————————— 1. The Attack was a short-lived yet very interesting outfit deriving from the sixties psychedelic experiment. Do tell...

The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story Cover Final

Creating The Syd Barrett Portrait By Mark Wilkinson

Mark Wilkinson is a talented artist responsible for great paintings in the sphere of music artwork. He did some striking images for Marillion/Fish! He was commissioned to do the DVD Cover for The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story DVD (American version) and will be auctioning off the original this month! There are also limited edition Giclée prints available from his site. Mark guides us through his thoughts concerning the production of the DVD artwork below. ——————————————————– Imagine hearing ‘Piper At The Gates Of Dawn’ for the first time. Back in ‘67 there were fewer frames of reference than there are today for any new band. In fact there were no antecedents really for this album back then. How often does something come along that is so unique that it takes your breath away? This record existed in a vacuum…or so it seemed to me as a kid of 15....
