Pink Floyd Founded School Schoolhouse Education to Close

Links – //Discuss on Forum | Times Education Supplement | Schoolhouse Education | An independent but state-funded school established with the help of one of the world’s biggest bands, Pink Floyd, has been forced to close after 40 years. Schoolhouse Education, which claims it was the “original free school”, is to shut its Lewisham site in June after failing to attract enough students and losing funding from the local authority. Its Greenwich site will remain open. The school was founded to help disaffected students in south London, and was able to open thanks to a £1,000 donation from Pink Floyd, raised at an Oxfam concert in Wembley in 1972. A newsletter published by teachers and students at the school in 1972 said: “Thank you Pink Floyd, without whom, quite literally, we would not have survived.” Read full story on TES website.

Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here – 5.1 SACD On The Way

The long-awaited 5.1 version of ‘Wish You Were Here’, mixed by James Guthrie, will be released on 7th November 2011 via independent label Acoustic Sounds. So, all of you that bought an SACD player to listen to Dark Side of the Moon when that was released on SACD will have another disc to add to your collection! The SACD is, of course, being released as part of the huge release schedule which comes under the title “Why Pink Floyd…” which starts from 26th September 2011. The new “Why Pink Floyd” mammoth collection of new re-mastered albums, new boxsets and digital releases shall be promoted with a new official Pink Floyd website. The site is due to go live very soon as per the image to the right which currently occupies the home page of the site. I have been guessing at various URLs to try and reveal a sneak peak at the new site but it appears it is not loaded to the server just yet! Pink Floyd Concert in Romania 2012?

Saw a very odd story indeed today on a website called Business Reivew in which they say, “At a press conference announcing the Rock the City festival, D&D East Entertainment officials have stated that the legendary Pink Floyd might hold a concert in Romania, next year, according to website realitatea.net. The organizers are, however, currently negotiating with the band.” I find that highly unlikely even in light of Nick Mason’s recent radio interview on BBC 6 Music in which he said he would like Pink Floyd to get back together and play a concert for a special occasion, much like Live 8. Pink Floyd have not played in Romania before although Roger Waters has performed in Russia in the past a few times. I find it highly unlikely that they would play in Romania! Anyway, what do I know!
