NPF is pleased to announce that, after a report yesterday of a Syd Barrett painting theft, the artwork has now been returned.
The self-portrait (pictured right) was returned to Idea Generation gallery in London this morning via post after the thief must have had a change of heart.
The painting was owned by Syd’s ex-girlfriend Libby Gausden who issued a heartfelt plea for its return. The painting was stolen from Idea Generation Gallery, 11 Chance Street, EC2, on Saturday afternoon between 2.15 – 3pm, returning on Tuesday morning. It is thought that the picture is undamaged.
Lessons to Learn
The theft of the painting from the gallery raises questions about the level of security afforded to the unique collection that people from around the world have contributed to in terms of loaning their prized and very much cherished pieces of music and popular culture history.
Let us hope that the security measures in place are reviewed and changed to reflect the nature of some lesser people in our society.
