David Gilmour London Listening Party and Rockonteurs Podcast Recording

A couple of developments in the David Gilmour area of events. Firstly, there was a David Gilmour London Listening Party last night at the Soho Hotel at 4 Richmond Mews in Soho, London of David Gilmour’s new album Luck and Strange in Dolby Atmos. The listening was done in the dark, Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets and Pink Floyd bassist Guy Pratt was in the audience and shared an update on that.

Secondly, Polly posted the picture below with David Gilmour joined by Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt. Some speculated early on in the day that Gary Kemp might join David Gilmour’s touring band but, more likely, it was the Rockonteurs Podcast in the making. Nick Mason was on podcast number one, and David Gilmour will feature on the new series starting next month.

On posting the picture Polly Samson said on her Instagram, “Four of the best from yesterday’s #luckandstrange escapades 🐈‍⬛”. I can see three people in the picture, is there a hidden cat? Polly said on her Facebook, “3 of the Best” as the caption so not sure where the other one disappeared to? Typo perhaps, or there is a black cat hiding somewhere!

Guy Pratt revealed an hour later, “We can’t wait for you to hear this…coming soon to @rockonteurs we welcome David Gilmour to the podcast. Join Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt for the new series in September and watch our latest episodes on YouTube now.”

David Gilmour New Album Dolby Atmos listening event

The David Gilmour London Listening Party event for his new album Luck and Strange took place yesterday in London’s The Soho Hotel. The hotel is popular with record company types listening to all kinds of things in their posh theatre. They were listening to a Dolby Atmos mix of the new album. Guy pratt wrote, “Great listening in the dark to Atmos mix of Luck and Strange. More amazing work by @charlie.andrew.12 [album producer] and @mattglasbey [recording engineer and mixer]”. At the event, David was interviewed up front by BBC 6 Music’s Matt Everitt.

David Gilmour’s new album Luck and Strange is released on 6th September which is coincidentally Roger Water’s birthday. It is released in multiple formats including a very collectable deluxe edition which features amongst other things a photo book of the behind the scenes snaps that Polly Samson took. Polly is an excellent photographer and has captured many great images over the years letting us nosey fans get a look behind the scenes. The new album has been a couple of years almost in the making with lots of photos posted over that period of David working in the studio with various people including members of his family who have either written lyrics, sang or played on the album. David is also very keen to be getting on with another new album too so there is lots to look forward to in the solo project arena.
