1974 - Syd Barrett turns up at Abbey Road during WYWH sesh

I do believe Syd Barrett turned up on 5th June 1974 at Abbey Road studios whilst Pink Floyd were recording the Wish You Were Here album which is based on a theme of absense! Apparently, Mr Barrett entered the room and nobody recognised the fat, eyebrow-less man. Spooky!!

So did he, or did he not, attend Gilmours wedding that day as well? Why does this sometimes get mentioned and other times not?

The story goes that Syd did attend the wedding reception that evening. I don't believe he stayed very long though from what I read.

This happened in 1975.

In MOJO (April 2006), Gilmour said his wedding took place later--in July 1975--and Syd did not attend.

and the text specifies the date as June 5th 1975
same page as that Stephane Grapelli story we discussed not so long ago

too bad, I got excited at the evidence theyd begun recording Shine On as early as June 1974
it wouldnt surprise me that theyd spend a year and a half recording one song
it would also give hope there was an early studio demo of R&D waiting to be released one day, but alas, not in this parallel universe

so wuddabout this story Syd asked to play and they couldnt be bothered?
to repeat a gag, "nobody knows where you are?", he was right there in the freaking studio ready to play!
too bad reality didnt fit the myth they were trying so hard to build

I've read interviews with David Gilmour where he says Syd wasn't at his wedding. It kind of makes sense if I take a little jump in logic here. The others in the band would surely have been at David's wedding. Both Nick and Rick have said the last time they saw Syd was in Abbey Road. So 1+1=5...
