My interview with Andy Jackson

Post by MikeMettler »

Hey everyone,

I wanted to let you all know I just posted my Q&A with Andy Jackson about his recent production work on The Endless River and The Division Bell 20th Anniversary Edition box set. The interview was conducted in person in the control room at Astoria back on 27 August (see the attached photo).

The longer-form version of our chat is here on my site, The SoundBard: http://www.soundbard.com/soundbard/loud ... ess-river/

A shorter version of our chat appears here on the Sound & Vision site: http://www.soundandvision.com/content/p ... less-river

In the coming weeks and months, I will be posting more Endless River-related stories and interviews, so stay tuned...

Thanks for reading!

Mike

The "interview" seemed like nothing more than a commercial. A promo for the new old album. PR crap.

Mettler: To me, that was the vintage ’70s Floyd sound right there.

Jackson: Yes!

But it's 2014. When making DSOTM they didn't try to capture the sound of the 1930s. Gilmour and Waters clearly have nothing to offer but nostalgia. A spent force creatively. Yet they keep releasing expensive rehashes.

So The Big Spliff was originally an Andy Jackson concoction? I always somehow thought it was done by Nick. Was that the soundscape then?

The Soundscape is credited to Gilmour, Wright, Mason. You can hear a small fragment from it at the start of the Audio 1 sample teaser for the TER.

Hopefully we'll get some snippets from the Big Spliff within the extra material on the DVD.
