It is tempting to mention Mostly Autumn, just to see what reaction that would get (for those not in the know, they have been hyped as being the "New Pink Floyd", but in my opinion sound nothing like PF except when doing covers when they sound like a moderately convincing tribute band).

Yes, Porcupine Tree have similarities, as do some of Hawkwind's post-Calvert material. It is actually hard to think of bands that really sound like Pink Floyd, because so few do, except for some who just end up being second rate copyists. It is easier to namecheck a few bands that a Pink Floyd fan might like, such as krautrockers, spacerockers, prog rockers and the 1970's classic rock brigade.

It also depends on what era of Floyd you are talking about...there are bands and artists that are influenced by Syd and the early Floyd, like Robyn Hitchcock; some influenced by psychedelic Floyd like Saturnia; some influenced by mid-70's Floyd such as Eloy, especially on their album Silent Cries and Mighty Echoes; and even some heavily influenced by the latter day Gilmour led Floyd such as the band Dionysus. The Legendary Pink Dots often draw on influences from early Floyd, both Syd and post-Syd eras, as well as Syd's solo stuff, but they have a sound that is definitely their own.

i know its probably an easy answer, but i dont think there is any music out there that sounds anywhere like Pink Floyd.....

simply because every great album released by PF was seminal..

Piper... was a highly original and ground breaking album....

Dark side ..... was an enormously ground breaking album.....

the wall is still an unsurpassed piece of rock theatre.....

everything else that was released afterwards in those genres just sound like cheep imitations to me.....

i think you need to look outside the progressive, psychedilic and rock genres to find artists comparable with Pink Floyd ie...

maybe Miles Davis for the jazz genre
or Muddy Waters for blues.....
or maybe Manu Chao for african world music....

Pink Floyd fans may or may not like Slayer (some obviously do), but I wouldn't say their music sounds a whole lot like PF.

Vera,
Three groups that sound like Pink Floyd are:
King Crimson
Genesis
The Alan Parsons Project (of the Dark Side engineer Alan Parsons)

Thank you everybody , this will help me a lot, if you know some more don't be shy! I'm 40 years old now and I've been into Floyd since I'm 13, so it's been 27 years of fantastic music and still not bored with it, thanks to Keith Jordan for this (incontournable) website, I'm French from Canada and you may be interested in knowing a little bit about to what I would considered my French Pink Floyd ,Supertramp, Genesis all in one , maybe you already heard of Harmonium, a band from the 70's in Quebec Canada,if you don't know the language it doesn't matter their music will carry you away! Here's a link for a 30 second sample (I know it's short) but this is the best I could find! Click song #1( Little speaker) the song Harmonium and it will give you a fare example of what they sound like!

http://www.archambault.ca/store/Product ... =Harmonium

Enjoy and thanks again! :D

I don't think it sounds like the floyd. Who knows? Maybe I'm wrong.
Also try The Soft Machine.
