Haha...that is the point in some ways. You see, they did not intend Aqualung to be a concept album, yet that is what the critics called it. So for their next album Thick As a Brick, they intended it as a "send up" of the genre...tongue in cheek. A Passion Play is the same in many respects. I don't listen to them anymore...the flute gets on my nerves. I only ever listened to A Passion Play once in a while. There are some parts I do like, but 45 minutes is a bit much. Thick as a Brick is far better - one of my favorite vinyl covers with the news paper.

Thanks, Oldhippie, I needed a title for something I've just finished working on. Unknown Crap is perfect!

Stairway to heaven is definitely a nursery rhyme ( a bad one) and Passion Play gives me motion sickness.

I do love that piano line John Evans played on the versus of the song Flying Dutchman from Stormwatch.

I loved their early stuff especially. Ian and company have always been excellent live too.

They're not bubblegum pop. They play folk music. 8)

I remember a mate of mine saying that he was at a Jethro Tull concert where they kept playing their new stuff so the guy beside him yells at the stage 'this isn't Jethro Tull! This is shite!'... Oh the irony

jtull needs a thread.

The last album I bought of theirs was This Was, the deluxe version.

Actually, I have been listening to "A", Broadsword & the Beast and bits from Nightcap from the same era...Broadsword could have been a double album, they recorded so many songs around that time...

Here is all songs-outtakes from Broadsword & the Beast session:

3. Jack Frost And The Hooded Cow
4. Too Many Too
5. Overhang
6. Rhythm In Gold
7. I Am Your Gun
8. Down At The End Of Your Road
9. Motoreyes
10.Crew Nights
11.The Curse
12.Commons Brawl
13.No Step
14.Drive On The Young Side Of Life
15.Lights Out
16.(Jack-A-Lynn accustic version)

Well, depends on what you mean by album - cd or vinyl?

What do you think about this very early 80's period?

Well, I don't like very much that particullary electronic Jethro Tull period (80-84), except for Broadsword and The Beast album.

I don't like "A" album that much. 2-3 relatively good songs (Fylingdale Flyer, Working John Working Joe, Crossfire) and one really great song - Black Sunday, rest is poor and uninspired.

Under Wraps is pure garbage imho. One of greatest misstep in Rock 'n Roll.

Broadswoard and The Beat is totally different story IMO. Great album and great and inspired time and sessions for Jethro Tull. Not only that B&B album is very good but all 26 songs from that studio-session is nearly great. Ian Anderson was on fire 81-82

Agree with both points! Still, I don't mind "A" that much...
