I remember the last time I saw this guy on stage in some incarnation of Jefferson Airplane. It was about ten years ago. He sat down for most of the gig swigging a bottle of whisky every now and then. It wasn't a great image and I thought to myself 'At his age living like that, he won't last that long'. He did though for another ten years!

This news really saddened me. I'm a big Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship fan. But it's Kantner's solo efforts that are amongst my favourite albums, especially 'Blows Against the Empire' and 'Baron Von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun'. He will be sadly missed. RIP
