Best debut album by a replacement singer?

Post by space triangle »

I’m going to have to go with AC/DC’s, Back In Black, Brian Johnson’s first album with the band after the death of Bon Scott.

Trick Of The Tail.

The ACDC album mentioned above is a very strong contender too.

What about More by Pink Floyd? David Gilmour replacing Syd Barrett. I don't count 'A Saucerful of Secrets' here because of Gilmour didn't sing any of the lead vocals on ASOS.

I was going to jokingly say Saucerful of Secrets, but Gilmour does sing lead on "Let There Be More Light" and "Corporal Clegg", as well as harmony vocals on the title track and backing vocals on "Set the Controls" and "See-Saw".

You are obviuosly right. I haven't listened ASOS studio album in a long time. I thought Gilmour sung only a backing vocals. But still, he sings a lead vocal 'only' on the two songs.

Seasons End (marillion)

The Roaring Silence (Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Chris Thompson in his prime was one of the best rock vocalists EVER)

Interesting mention regarding Hogarth.

I bought Seasons End when it came out. Saw the tour etc but that's when I started to lose touch with Marillion.
A very different kind of vocalist in comparison with Fish.

As for Chris Thompson, I really like his vocal style immensely.

Definitely! But I'm more and more drawn towards the stuff the band has done with him. I think songs like Afraid of Sunlight or The Invisible Man are astounding, not in the least bit thanks to the vocal (but of course Steve Rothery is still one of the best guitarists whose name isn't David Gilmour  )
