Favorite Song Written Solely by Rick Wright

Post by Real Pink in the Inside »

List your favorite song written solely by Rick Wright. Here are the songs he wrote by himself:

"Paint Box"
"Remember A Day"
"It Would Be So Nice"
"See-Saw"
"Sysyphus (Parts I-IV)"
"Summer 68"
"The Great Gig In The Sky"
Bunch of stuff on Wet Dream & Broken China

~~~~~
My choice: "Summer 68" - Very upbeat and catchy tune. "The Great Gig in the Sky" and "Paint Box" are not far behind...
Well, legally GGITS is a co-write with Clare Torry cos she wailed some stuff over the top of it and someone somewhere decided she was entitled to a credit.
To be precise:
"Mediterranean C"
"Against The Odds"
"Cat Cruise"
"Summer Elegy"
"Waves"
"Holiday"
"Mad Yannis Dance"
"Drop In From The Top"
"Funky Deux"
(from "Wet Dream")
"Unfair Ground"
"Satellite"
"Interlude"
"Black Cloud"
"Drowning"
"Sweet July"
(from "Broken China")
I find neither of the songs listed particularly interesting. His best work was still with Pink Floyd, and the best songs from his solo career are not written solely by him.
Yes, sadly I would agree with that. He was best when he chipped in with others (or they chipped in with him. I don't think any of "Wet Dream" stands out much, and the instrumental tracks on "Broken China" are just bookends for the vocal tracks.
Personally, I think "Great Gig" should be classified as a sole Wright composition (as opposed to a Clare Torry co-write), and therefore it is easily his best song.
"Painbox", "Remember A Day" and "Summer 68" make up the best of the rest. "See Saw" and "Sysyphus" are two of the few PF tracks that I really don't fancy at all.
Co-written with Anthony Moore (Moore did the lyrics if I recall correctly)
Funny enough, I was going to include that selection but figured it would simply confuse some people. Funnier yet, I was listening to SoYcD Part IX when I first read your post.
Summer 68 (a contender for best track on AHM), with the wonderful Remember a Day not far behind. Loved the Dave performance of this on Jools.
remember a day is a great track that doesnt ramble on or get lost in meaningless sound effects or noodling
One question I would like to ask Rick is whether the rumours are true and he really did write it.
I only find them quite interesting, but not masterpieces. A bit too mellow for me...
Of RPITI's list I'll do a best-of:
Real Pink in the Inside wrote: 1. "Sysyphus part IV"
2. "See-Saw"
3. "Paint Box"
4. "Summer 68"
5. "Remember A Day"
6. "It Would Be So Nice"
7. "Sysyphus part II"
8. "The Great Gig In The Sky"
9. "Sysyphus part I"
10. "Sysyphus part III"
S pt IV is so dramatic, so atmospheric, so grandiose!
S-S is very personal, safe, with that psychedelic interlude :D
Paint Box is again personal and dramatic, and very beautiful :)
