Scott Page - famous outside of the Floyd's...

Post by Peter Harold »

Hi there!

What has Pink Floyd to do with Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman? Well, I would not say the connection is the musical influence. Maybe for very few parts of "The Wall" has anything to do with the era of the 1940-ies, mostly the reference to dame Vera Lynn on the song "Vera". And perhaps some hints in the movie "The Wall".

But the real connection between Pink Floyd and tha 1940-ies big jazz bands are the choice of Scott Page as saxophone-player for the toring of "A Momentary Lapse of Reason"-album. Scott's dad is in fact the famous band leader Bill Page (1925-) who has been recording with names as Judy Garland and Barry Manilow, and has blown in most all reed music instruments that exist, mostly to get some tunes of Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman out in the air as show band orchestra.

Here is a video clip from 1992 when dad and son joined together to play a famous tune:

Shine on,

Really? That's an interesting piece of trivia I never knew about. You could add a very tenuous link to that: he played with Judy Garland, she was in the Wizard of Oz...
