I don't doubt it, Gus.
You're much smarter than I give you credit for.
So...why won't you be taking part?

Completely agree.mosespa wrote:I, personally, am not of the opinion that "good music" REQUIRES such complexities as maj/min 7ths, augmented/diminished chords, flatted 9ths, etc. etc. etc. etc.
I can be moved by three power chords just as effectively as I can by 18 more "complex" chords. *shrug*

I'll put it this way:
Hey Jude has moved me to tears more times than anything from Tales From Topographic Oceans.

Re: This Could Work...
I'm not completely counting myself out. There are many reasons why I shouldn't, though. The biggest reason is that I no long have a mixing/editing program. I am fine with using raw, unedited performances straight from my digital recorder, but that will require much time. This is because you will essentially be hearing a live performance. Each take is 1 continuous performance with no cuts, so if I screw up, I have to do the whole thing over again. Add that I have to record without a metronome (multiple tempo and time signature changes), record piano, drums, and any number of other keyboard instruments, it ends up being one massive headache. Still, I think I may be willing to give it a go. I will send you a clip of my music via private message soon to give you an idea of what I'm going for.mosespa wrote:

I actually agree with this. Tales from topographic oceans is not an emotional record. "Close to the edge" and the song "Heart of the sunrise" move me greatly, however.mosespa wrote:

Good to know, Gus. Keep at it, man.
I've no doubt you'll turn in something remarkable.

Maybe if people didn't take themselves so seriously they might actually get somewhere .....

I think that the only thing that he takes seriously is trying to give the impression that he takes anything seriously.
And yet, that doesn't seem suitably convoluted enough to really give the feeling. *shrug*

Re: This Could Work...
ok, i've finally gotten around to writing some lyrics for "i'm quite comfortable". i've really tried to honor the spirit of the exercise here. the song titles on the "small talk" album were weird parodies of floyd titles. i tried to do the same thing with the lyrics. they're a cheap copy of the real thing. not very original but different enough to avoid copyright infringement. the real challenge will be if someone out there can do the same thing with the music. hopefully one of you is up to it! in the meantime, sing along kids. you know the tune:
hi there,
i wonder if you can hear me
just nod if you an conscious,
can you hear me at all?
hello you,
i understand you're feeling blue,
well i just feel the same,
man i really feel your pain
just chill,
relax 'cause i can see you'll burst
it's a well known fact,
that you feel you've got it worst.
i'm feeling good, it is deceiving.
how distant it is there on the horizon.
i'm finding my way straight through a maze,
i hear what you're saying, but i'm just lost in a daze.
when i was a kid, i felt peculiar.
my feet felt just like they were clay,
now i feel that i am lame,
i cannot walk at all, not down the hall,
i'll just stay just where i am.
but i am, quite comfortable.
well then,
just a small injection,
you'll feel a slight waaaaaah,
there may be a little prick.
are you stable?
i see that it is working, fine.
it'll keep you moving, time to go,
get up, let's do the show.
i'm feeling good, it is deceiving.
how distant it is there on the horizon.
i'm finding my way straight through a maze,
i hear what you're saying, but i'm just lost in a daze.
when i was quite young, i took a giant step,
out of the front door of my mind.
i tried to think but it was blank,
i can't retrieve it all right now,
the seed is sown,
my mind is gone,
but i am quite comfortable.
