Favourite David Gilmour Solo Album

Post by FreeFour »

Whilst we wait for the next one, what's your favourite from David's previous three albums ?

For me OAI has the musical maturity and textures and his debut has a rawness to it, and yet I always seem to enjoy About Face the most.

Not sure the video to Blue Light needs to be mentioned though..

i liked OAI when i first heard it - i guess i was caught up in the excitement of a new Gilmour album - but it hasn't held up to repeated listens as well as his first solo effort.

Same here. I always end up going back to that first album which, while it's uneven, has held up better than the other two.

I like the first two. Yes, About Face has lots of 80's vibe, but so? it was the 80's after all. Murder is pretty epic. Nothing really rises to the top on OAI for me.

I went for OAI, the first two albums have dated a bit to much really, but Take A Breath from OAI was a bad idea :(

the "take a breath, take a deep breath now" chorus is what hurts the song imo. otherwise it would have easily been one of my favorites off OAI.

The first one. It's the only one of his solo albums I keep returning to. It must have been two or three years since I last played my OAI CD, and even more since I heard anything from AF.

There's some great songs on both the first two albums. And as I reached my teens in the early 80's, I see nothing wrong with the 80's sound on AF. Murder is an epic tune; wish he would pull that one out of the vault on his next tour. Funny, iTunes doesn't stock About Face...

id say that, the 2nd guitar solo on OAI is the best Gilmour guitar solo ever, pisses over anything hes ever done, the rest of the album would put a glass eye too sleep

I enjoy all three of David's solo albums. On an Island got me through my first year of living in Florida and also through my mom's passing and my best friend's death a year later. The first I love the most as it was a bursting of creativity that was stifled from Animals.
