I'd love to know how you actually came up with this analysis?
His last two albums have sounded like easy listening music (Sting, Yanni, etc). The shows were the same. Very smooth easy listening, low energy. The band is out of shape in general and bloated. Having Crosby on stage is just sad. The whole thing, from the studio albums to the live shows just lack fire, and seem more like guys very, very comfortable (too comfortable) going through the motions. I got the feeling Dave would rather be sitting on his couch.

The extremely limited tour also gives off this impression, like he can't be bothered.

Playing Pompeii and having it mostly be his weak solo songs was a real disservice.

Day you will compose something a tenth as a good as Any Tongue, come back with your thought but till then it's not very credible.

''Low energy'' I got more goosebumps during Faces of Stones solo then the whole RW Wall show. If at least you want blame something on Gilmour performance blame his playing which has been inconsistent during the Tour but in a Pink Floyd context he got a lot more to deliver than the same note for note, lip-sync rubbish.

The man has a right to retire. I hope he enjoys the fruits of his labors. He owes us nothing more.

He has the right but this article is most likely fake.

If it's true, then I don't begrudge him. Well, apart from him not coming to do a live show in Dublin since 1984 :( He's 70 and has been there, done that, worn the t-shirt. He doesn't tour unless he has a new album out. Using that logic, he might be in his mid 70s by the time the next album comes out. I'm not sure most 75 year olds would be up for the hassle of a tour. On the other hand, people have been known to change their minds. It would not surprise me if he continues to make periodic live appearances.

Given the reliability of the media you may be right. But if it is true...I do hope he enjoys retirement...he has certainly earned it in my view.

I could see him doing the odd live show here and there.

The only rock musicians who have ever truly retired are those who are dead.

There's an exception to every rule.

(Well-played, though! )

There are no articles on the Daily Mail website relating to Gilmour's retirement, so I reckon this one is plain old horseshit. Even a cursory internet search fails to show up any articles from genuine journalistic sources. I rather suspect if he had retired, it would at least be given some heavy coverage by some of the music magazines.

Oh, and Flathead... thanks for the laughs!

More stories saying he's retired. Apparently Durga McBroom mentioned he said he was done.
