I was pleasantly surprised by 'Rhamadan'. Having read various dismissive descriptions of it over the years. It's got a cool psych jam feel. I guess I can't be entirely objective about it, but I think that even if it wasn't Barrett related I'd think it was pretty good. It's just the kind of music I like. Having said that, to my ear, it's not to the standard of Interstellar or Nick's Boogie, but it's a different 'band' and it's unfinished....(though when is an improv jam actually completed?) And yes I can here a touch Davis's stuff around this period. I know Syd listened to Miles at some point, not sure what he was listening to at this period.
I was kinda prepared to be disappointed overall (and feel somewhat ripped off) with this compilation, being that we don't really need another one. But it actually works pretty well as an 'introduction'. The little extra/extended bits are quite nice and Gilmour's subtle bass guitar on 'Here I Go' fits in while being respectful to the original mix.
