Lyrics to One in a Million
Ok, this track was played at least once in 1967 in the Star Club, Copenhagen. The most striking feature is that it resembles Corporal Clegg, hence I suppose it was written by Roger Waters, not Syd. The song is pretty heavy, with some lyrics sung too. Now the sound quality of my bootleg is not so good, I can hear only the first line "Would you like to be one in a million?" clearly. Can anyone here decipher the lyrics for me? Thanks.

Re: Lyrics to One in a Million
Would you like to be one in a million?
Would you like to be one in five?
Would you like to know all the hidden meaning?
Before they tell you you've run out of time
Would you like to be one in a million?
Would you like to be one in five?
When they tell you you ain't going nowhere
When they tell you you can't live your life.

So weird this song just turns up on that bootleg and nowhere else. Pink Floyd recycled a lot of unused stuff but this track was completely erased. I guess it isn't brilliant.

Yup, the more time you spend on Syd Floyd things, the darker things get - even darker than any side of the moon!

I always thought it was a Roger song not a Syd song. If anything it is too clumsy and metricly precise to be a Syd song.

I did mention that it was a Waters song. But the lyrics are actually lot less lamer than Corporal Clegg (which sounds similar) and at least original and not ripped off from Jugband Blues.
And yes, Syd had a different style of songwriting (one in a million, after all!)

for some reason, i've always thought that those lyrics were aimed at Syd.

They're actually an early blue print of the wall - a reference to fame and the pressures of celebrity status, so yeah : they are indirectly aimed at Syd.

This track was recycled into both Corporal Clegg AND Let There be More Light. The "round and round and round you fly" chorus became the music for Let There Be More Light chorus, only with different words.
I like the groove of the song. And the guitar work reminds me of Sabbath with the descending blues riff as well as the staccato riffing of Hendrix on Machine Gun. A unique Pink Floyd tune, one that I woyld love to hear a studio version of. I prefer it to both of the songs that were derived from it.
