Lucy Leave and Lucy Lee in Blue tights?...Not The Same???

Post by arnold crow »

I copy this thread from another forum because i though that it was interesting to raise this question here...since this is the right place...

The Title was....
i also put some replies....

I think this is another mystery....

LUCY LEAVE AND LUCY LEE IN BLUE TIGHTS ARE TWO DIFFERNETS SONGS

I am reading the 'Rough Guide to Pink Floyd' for the moment. In it the author claims that PF did a demo for Lucy Lee In Blue Tights after they had done the demo for Lucy Leave.

I've always thought that LLIBT and LL were the same song but that the title was misinterpreted by a French journalist who didn't speak very good English and who printed Lucy Lee instead of Lucy Leave...

But the Rough Guide clearly states that these were 2 different songs recorded at different sessions... Any comments?

I found the quote back in the book by Toby Manning:

Thompson Private Recording Studio
Hemel Hempstead
xx November 1966

demos of:
I Get Stoned
Let's Roll Another One
Lucy Lee In Blue Thights

what a drag
you're a slag
in blue tights

Interstellar Overdrive

This is not the Lucy Leave - King Bee demo session!

REPLY

that is some information!
i remember Mason talk about Lucy Lee in blue tights but i always though that it was a working title to lucy leave....

this is the info i got so far in Random Precision..

1965

Lucy Leave
King Bee
Double-o Bo
Unknown title

1966
october 31

Interstellar Overdrive
I get stone(stone alone)

1966
? december

Interstellar overdrive
interview(this might be the CBC interview and the version you hear of IO might be the one recorded that day)

maybe that's the session where they did that lucy lee in blue ...maybe it was another version of lucy leave...or maybe just another Syd Barrett raritie...OH my God not another one...please not another puzzle???!!!

Lucy lee in blue tights

what a drag

Lucy Leave

Leave, when I ask you to leave, Lucy
Please, far away from me, Lucy
Oh, go little girl
Seen, is (oh so) broken up about you, Lucy
Mean, treat me and done me harm, Lucy
Been, in love with you and your charms, Lucy
Oh, go little girl
I'm in love with you, Lucy

You got my heart
You got my heart, oh no!
You tear me apart
You just won't let me go
You hold on so tight, so tight I just can't breath
Now Lucy leave, Lucy

Leave, when I ask you to leave, little girl
Please, far away from me, little girl
Yeah! go little girl
Seen, is (oh so) broken up about you, Lucy
Yeah!
Go.

According to the lyrics they are two different songs. Lucy Leave circulates among collectors but lucy lee in tights remain a mistery?there is a probability Nick Mason still have a copy

Pretty sure they are the same song. You write "Lucy Lee" but that title was usually spelled as Lucy Lea. I think it's a stretch that Syd wrote a song titled Lucy Leave and Lucy Lea in Blue Tights. Maybe the "blue tights" bit was an unrecorded lyric or verse for the song Nick remembered.

also, try placing those Lucy Lee lyrics into Lucy Leave melody, check if they go well together
