Hopefully this isn't considered off-topic...............

"Synch" is an abbreviation of the word "Synchronicity," and/or the various forms of that word.

Jung wrote of synchronicities and his assumption is that they are meaningless occurences. I disagree somewhat.

As I touched upon in another post, I believe that between The Big Bang and The Big Crunch all things must occur. If you view the Bang/Crunch as being similar to the expansion/contraction of a muscle or as anything else that has a beginning and an ending motion, then you can see that before the next cycle begins, the previous cycle must be complete.

In order to be complete, anything and everything that can happen MUST happen...else it's not complete.

The Bang/Crunch cycle takes billions upon billions of OUR years, but on a more, shall we say, universal scale may only take a few seconds. But during these few seconds, everything that can happen MUST happen.

Getting back down into OUR time frame (where a few seconds equals billions upon billions of years) and our dimensional frame (in which stars and planets form, last for a number of years and then die out) what this means is that children must starve and other children must be fed; fires must begins spontaneoulsy while others must have human catalysts; married couples must enjoy a lifetime of domestic bliss while others must end after only a few months or even days; some people must live long lives while others must die upon birth; certain pieces of music must conincide with segments of film made years before while other pieces of music must not conincide with the same piece of film.

Do you see what I'm getting at?

ALL THINGS MUST PASS...this does not just mean that everything must come to an end, it also means that everything that can happen must happen...even the seemingly impossible.

What does it all mean?

Nothing in this world has any meaning whatsoever...except the meaning given to it by the observer.

This post has no meaning at all...except whatever meaning you the reader ascribe to it.

This web board has no meaning whatsoever...except whatever meaning that we, the users, give it.

Pink Floyd has no meaning whatsoever...save whatever meaning the listener gives.

Life has no meaning whatsoever...except whatever meaning the person living gives it.

Bloody hell, nice theory, thought provoking stuff, and cheers for expanding my preception that little bit. Although i disagree in part i have always said it, life means what we make it mean. And although that has little to do with the actual subject it also has everything to do with it. Nice one.

Probably Pink Floyd in 1970 changed the credits too. AHM was made by Barrett, back in 1967 for the movie 2001: A S od. !

i thought the movie in question was A Clockwork Orange, not 2001: A Space Odyssey... Kubrick wanted creative control over the album, but the Floyd turned him down

You're all wrong, the album that Kubrick wanted to use was AMLOR, and the movie was Full Metal Jacket.

Pink Floyd composing songs and whole albums for????

Post by Firstinspace »

I think this whole thing about Pink Floyd songs and albums having been composed for this and that video, etc., needs to stop. Yeah, Pink Floyd music is great when you're in a chemical state, and yeah, experimenting with music and video while in that chemical state is fun, but afterwards it means nothing. The band members have never been shy about what soundtracks they've composed, so I don't think they would keep all of us in the dark about "The Wizard of Oz", "2001: A Space Odyssey", and whatever other videos you want to throw into the fire. If you watch any old Looney Tunes, you'll see that at times, the classical music synched up with the animation. I'm sorry if I sound like an ass, but I'm just kind of sick of hearing that Pink Floyd secretly composed their albums to sync up with certain movies. Oh yeah, and here's a new one. Did you know that Roger Waters secretly composed "The Wall" to sync up with a movie that Alan Parker was putting together - also called "The Wall". Pretty weird huh? Just throw on a pair of good headphones, and crank the volume and then create videos in your mind!

Take care and shine on!

I have heard rumors that Floyd was contacted by Kubrick to score some music for "2001" for years. I have yet to find ANY information that would even suggest such a thing outside of newsgroups and wishful thinking on the part of revisionists.

The original rumor that I heard was that "Echoes" was supposed to be used during the space tripping sequence near the end of the film.

While that seems a bit far fetched to me, I urge everyone to do a search on Kaaza (or your favorite peer to peer program) for "Echoes/2001" (or something akin to that). There is a glorious, high quality .avi of that song playing over that particular sequence and it's mind blowing!

As far as this whole crazy "Wizard of Oz" thing? Man, I used to hear that smoking banana peels would get you stoned too. But then again, I did give that a try once. lol

It seems to me that Floyd have been a VERY scrutinized and well researched band. It is very unlikely to me that there are many stones left unturned.

The chances of any new, huge, revelations (such as ideas for movie soundtracks involving directors as well known as Kubrick) seem remote at best.

All of these crazy rumors do nothing but muddy the waters of fact.

But alas, they are fun things to ponder, and as long as there is good weed in this world, people will still try to snyc up The Wizard of Oz with Darkside of the Moon...

Enjoy yourselves boys and girls.

Just don't get too caught up in the hype.

Peace,
Dr. Z

Yes Darkside, oz is just a staggering coincidence.
But on another note I heard that 2001 A Space Oddysey Synchs with Atom Heart Mother.
Oh wait, thats already been discussed in this thread.
Now that I think of it, if you watch the movie Fast and Furious, and play The Wall, you hit play the first time someone does a burnout, then when they say something that its completely inaccurate about cars, you hit stop, and then play again when someone else does a burnout, then right near the end you scream out "METALLICA SUCKS!!!!!!111111" I heard the whole thing synchs together with such fluidity that you would think everyone in the movie was actually singing the words to the songs when they're speaking the dialogue.

Hey does anyone know when the The new Pink Floyd album is coming out?? I heard it has been delayed a few months, it seems that Rick has gotten into his coke habit again, and Dave had a heart attack after eating 6 or 7 quarter chicken dinners in between studio sessions.

The closest thing I have heard to anything about the 2001 thing was that Roger once said something to the effect that he wished Floyd had been asked to do it or that they wanted to do it or something like that.

I've never heard of them being approached about it, though.
