Post by vizor »

1: Octopus
2: Lanky
3: Golden Hair (instrumental)

All others, he was too sick to be recording. (But sick in a good kind of way).

Just listened to Bob Dylan Blues. A worthy inclusion as one of my favourite tunes.

Flaming is a wonderful poem and song. I think it gets my vote, although there are quite a few more songs on the same level. Astronomy Domine is indeed a great piece.

My personal favourites are baby lemonade, bike, lucifer sam and jugband blues. But it's always difficult to say when you like so many of an artist's songs!!

The most I like Chapter 24 because it has a personal meaning to me.

Also Terrapin, Two Of A Kind and Love Song.

And I will always think of Syd as in Flaming.

Lot's of great songs. Such touching lyrics. I was just listening to "I Never Lied to You" which is great. I've always liked Octopus, Baby Lemonade and Wouldn't you miss me. Music should touch your emotions and that's what Syd's music does for me.

Recently I've listened a bit to Birdy Hop - on the one hand the way he sings it reflects his mental state, he sounds like he's trying to hold it together and there is also some desperation in his voice, but on the other hand the sheer wonder at the world which comes out in the lyrics is something few songwriters manage. I think as we grow up we lose that sense of wonder about the world, but a few people retain an almost child-like view of the world which comes through in songs like Birdy Hop, Scarecrow and the like. I think it's a rare talent and it draws me to Syd's songs.

It's not particularly popular to like artists like Syd Barrett. Other people often listen to his songs and wonder how you can like his music. I always think of it in terms of: Does this music talk to me? Syd's music talks to me, those who find that Syd's music doesn't talk to them should just walk away and leave it to those of us who do enjoy it.

DS

Edit: forgot to add the songs with Pink Floyd: Astronomy Domine, Lucifer Sam, Jugband Blues, See Emily Play et al. I also like the 1966 version of Interstellar Overdrive from the San Francisco soundtrack, a bit more bluesy, excellent.

There's already a thread like this called "Favourite Syd Songs"
Yes, Best and Favourite aren't the same, but it's the same idea. :?
