Best Syd Biography

Post by Sonic Destruction »

I am thinking about buying a Syd bio, and am wondering which is the best. The three I know of are "Lost In The Woods" (which I have read), "Crazy Diamond" (the one updated to the time of Syd's funeral) and "The Half-life Of Syd Barrett" (which got a crap review from Mojo or Uncut).

Are there any others out there? Which Syd book would people recommend?

Option A: Buy the lot and make your own mind up, then let us know.

Option B: Buy Crazy Diamond and leave us all alone.

I've not read any of those Pat, but maybe you should try Crazy Diamond in case Half Life is crap. IMHO.

The Record Collector article on Syd stated (or maybe just implied) in passing that the "Crazy Diamond" book is largely based on anecdotal stuff and may not be too accurate. Prior to reading that, I had ordered "Crazy Diamond" because it was so up to date, telling the end of the story, so to speak. My order had been delayed, but I found out this morning that it will likley ship in the new year. Good to hear that Keith rates "Crazy Diamond" highly, as that means it is likely to be good. :)

I was a bit drunk when I wrote the above, so apologies if I came off a little abrupt. What I kinda meant is I have read Crazy Diamond and think it is interesting and worth reading, but can't recommend the others as I haven't read them, so if you do get them why not let us know what you think?

Amazon? :?

I have Crazy Diamond, but haven't got the chance to sit and read it. I ordered Madcap at the same time and Amazon delayed my order so many times I gave up. I have A Fish Out Of Water on my computer. I've read it. It's good.

Good to see "Crazy Diamond" getting the thumbs up (especially as I have shelled out my hard-earned for it). Thanks guys.

I would recommend "Lost In The Wood" as well.

Crazy Diamond and Lost in the Woods are both good books IMO.
