Pink Floyd's keyboard player Richard Wright has died of cancer at age 65. He died at home in England.

Wright's spokesman Doug Wright (no relation) said: "The family of Richard Wright, founder member of Pink Floyd, announce with great sadness that Richard died today [on 15th September] after a short struggle with cancer.

"The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this difficult time." The spokesman did not say which form of cancer Rick had.

Rest in peace. :(

OMG

I didn't even realise he was ill. Someone in work just told me and I asked who he was, as I didn't know any other Richard Wrights and didn't even contemplate it could be Rick.

I can't believe we've lost Rick so soon after Syd.

What a great shame.Huge condolances to his family. Rick was a vastly underated member of the Floyd and a vastly underated musician generally. Were it not for Rick there would be no Echoes,no Us and Them, no Great Gig In The Sky.The Wall would have been an entirely different and less manacing piece without that trademark Hammond growl, too. It was great to see Rick back at the top of his game playing with Dave Gilmour recently and his Wearing The Inside Out was one of the show's highlights. I understand he was beginning to work on a new album and it's so sad that we'll never get to hear it. I think Gilmour is meant to be playing live on Later next Tuesday. If this goes ahead there will be one hell of a gap stage left.

what a shocker
Im so glad he did that tour with Dave and that I got to see him up close and in the flesh

I always believed he defined the characteristic Floydian sound
even if Roger and Dave did more in terms of songwriting and flashy solos, it was the eerie floating sound of Ricks keys that made something sound Floydian
and he was the one with the good taste to swipe a chord change from Kind of Blue

Rick made Pink Floyd for me I think. His atmospheric keyboard/organ playing added so much.
