It does. Just trust me on this one.PublicImage wrote:"Quite good" does not equate four stars!moom wrote:Imho, it's quite a good album. 4 stars will do. But not 5, because at times it gets a wee bit boring.

Re: David Gilmour - On An Island
The rating scale cannot work like that!
If four stars denotes 'quite good' and five stars is 'masterpiece', it's one huge jump to make with no middle ground. I would think of it more like this:
1 - Terrible. Not worth listening to.
2 - Poor and inconsistent.
3 - Good overall, but let down by showing obvious signs of unfulfilled potential.
4 - Very good, but leaves something to be desired in spite of its brilliance.
5 - The best album by x artist.
If you think it is 'quite good', I think you should be giving it 3/5 instead of using extremely lenient ratings.

Well, I did give it 4, and it suites your scales.PublicImage wrote:The rating scale cannot work like that!

And also - MY scales work FOR ME how I want them to. I don't care for anybody else's scales.

Don't worry, if that's true nobody cares about your scales either
I myself I'm going to rate great albums with 1, because obviously they are "No. 1", and weak albums with 5.

I did not mean to hurt anyone's feelings But everyone has own opinion, so you really don't have to care for my scales.danielcaux wrote:Don't worry, if that's true nobody cares about your scales either

We can agree, or disagree, it's everybody's own choice . This is not something definite we're talking about.

we just disagree<...>

I think we should disagree,
yeah"

I still hold that a 4/5 rating for this album is the biggest sign of shit criticism in the history of the world. A 4/5 album does not "get a wee boring" at any point.

Hahaha! I agree Roger!
A wee boring at times is more like 2.5 out of 5

If I say "a wee", I mean "I wee", and that's not "a lot" or "sometimes". The closest is "a little". A little is not very significant to me. Take it or leave it. Like I said, I don't have to care for others' ratings, neither do they have to care about mine.PublicImage wrote:I still hold that a 4/5 rating for this album is the biggest sign of shit criticism in the history of the world. Only 2. It's a highly overrated album, mainly because it's the only new release from any Pink Floyd member in the last 10 years or so.

Re: David Gilmour - On An Island
That's an excellent point. Guitar solo wise, it does plenty to keep me happy (which is the main thing you want from Gilmour, I suppose). However, I'm afraid that the lyrics are incredibly cringeworthy in places and (as has been repeated far too often), it is too damn slow for too long! The best parts of the album are that it is very well produced (even though I would have preferred the orchestra and piano parts to be brought further to the front of the mix) and that it spurned an excellent tour.Hudini wrote:It's a highly overrated album, mainly because it's the only new release from any Pink Floyd member in the last 10 years or so.

While some songs do drag a bit, there's plenty here to make for a good album.
