Hmm, now forget AMLOR cause that gets slagged all the time, can someone review TDSOT? i haven't heard it yet and wouldn't mind an opinion that says more than a 1 star review does, cheers.

Okay, Delicate Sound Of Thunder. Their first official live album, barring the live portion of Ummagumma. Star ratings are very subjective(!), but I'd give it a three (good) or a two (average); it's alright.
The songs are, as always, competently performed, but the production lacks clarity and could almost be described as muddy. One only has to listen to 'Yet Another Movie', the third track, which features far too much delay on the vocal, and detracts from any potential effectiveness.
'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' is spoilt by saxophonist Scott Page, who has the ear for melody and pitch of a corpse. 'The Dogs Of War' is genuinely painful. This man should have been stopped. 'Us And Them' is better, sax-wise, although, like virtually every performance of said song, what I refer to as the 'high' bit, which comes right after the 'I mean good manners don't cost nuffin, do they? Eh' speech, is sadly nonexistent. I think this song works well in the Delicate Sound Of Thunder and P.u.l.s.e videos, which both feature the 'mining' footage and workers walking about.
'Learning To Fly' is alright. It's quite close to the studio version, though (well, this is Pink Floyd...), and not a patch on the energetic, crunching rendition on P.u.l.s.e. Plus, or rather minus, it hasn't got that 'Wooh!' bit at the end. I love that bit!
'Sorrow' is okay, too, but the 'dah, dah, dah...... POW!' drumming bits at the end aren't as effective as they are on P.u.l.s.e. In short, this album isn't as good as P.u.l.s.e!
But it is worth having for a handful of songs. 'Time', 'Wish You Were Here' and 'Us & Them' are all enjoyable readings, with 'Wish' in particular sounding more melodic than the original (though certainly not as devastating and emotive).
One of the best bits of this double set is when 'Money', which features much reggae-scat-lounge-jazz 'improvisations' in the middle, bursts into 'Another Brick In The Wall Part II', temporarily halting before exploding back with that irrestible first line.
Usual closers 'Comfortably Numb' and 'Run Like Hell' are unremarkable versions. The former doesn't have the melodic touch of the original (as if another version does...) and the 'strings' aren't as loud and satisfying as, yes, the P.u.l.s.e version.
Fantastic artwork, though, and there are lovely photos in the CD booklet (Gilmour and Pratt making faces on page 32 is genius!).
Worth getting for disc two.

I am merely shocked someone likes those over Roger's first two solo albums. That's very surprising.
OH well. I guess there is even someone out there who thinks Milli Vanilli's albums are better than The Wall and The Dark Side of the Moon...He too would probably appreciate Profiles more than PACOHH...
