Indeed.

It strangled the Pink Floyd sound as represented by CrappaWappa, Obscured By Lousy Songs, Less, A Bowl Full of Poop, The Cow Album, and Muddled.

Thank you Roger. [-D-] [-D-] [-D-] [-D-] :D [-D-] [-D-] [-D-] :D [-D-] [-D-] [-D-] [-D-]

Yeah...but it also strangled the sound of A Bright Plane Of The Comet and You Wish I Was There.

kitkat wrote:But your other comparisons, which you didnt even try to defend, I just dont even begin to see what you are talking about:
The Mothers in both Lennon and Waters' respective songs may be different characters (dead in Lennon's case, overbearing in Waters'), but the songs are still written with the same intention: to look to childhood to find the reason for being messed up in adulthood. And Waters was surely moved by the "Mama don't go, daddy come home!" refrain of Lennon's song.

The opening piano chords to Gunner's Dream and Isolation have always struck me as similar.

"Remember when you were young" is the opening line to Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Lennon's Remember. And the phrase "Shine On" was also coined by Lennon, in 1970's Instant Karma.

There are lines in Working Class Hero that remind me of Dogs, in particular "There is room at the top, they are telling you still, but first you must learn to smile as you kill". And of course the A minor riff from that song is the key musical theme that Pros and Cons is built around.

I'm not accusing Roger of plagiarism, he is a brilliant and original writer in his own right. On their own, each of these examples may only be a small similarity with Lennon's. But taken together they're clear examples of the influence Lennon had on Waters, in particular the Plastic Ono Band album.

I wonder how long it'll take kitkat to learn that Waters did NOT invent the wheel, discover fire and write the Beatles catalogue*?

*according to Nick Mason, that was Gilmour.

I disagree.

I think it is slightly sacriligious to use Waters' name....even with all caps.

To avoid the overly repetitious of his name, sorta like Mohammed, it is preferable and more reverential and proper to not use Roger Water's name at all...except in certain circumstances. It is more proper to simply refer to him as The Genius. By using the term, The Genius, we all know what you mean....and it sure in hell aint his former guitar player or his untalented yoko-like pothead wife.

What the hell??? You mean all this time when you used the term "The Genius" you were actually talking about Roger Waters!!!!?

I thought there was a consensus among PF conosiuers about there only being one (1) genius in the history of the band, and that was Waters' former guitar player: Roger "Syd" Barrett! The other Roger was just a neurotic perfectionist with a lot of emotional traumas, but it seems psycotherapy got rid of that, hence his total lack of decent output since the early 90s. Glad for him though.

Nah, that Barrett dude wrote songs like "Flaming".

From "Flaming":

"Alone in the clouds all blue
Lying on an eiderdown.
Yippee! You can't see me
But I can you.

Lazing in the foggy dew
Sitting on a unicorn.
No fair, you can't hear me
But I can you.

Watching buttercups cup the light
Sleeping on a dandelion.
Too much, I won't touch you
But then I might."

Nuff said.  <.8.> <.8.> <.8.>  <.8.>

Quite right.

i spoke and fell into a dream

What shall we use to fill the empty spaces
Where waves of hunger roar
Shall we set out across this sea of faces
In search of more and more applause

Shall we buy a new guitar
Shall we drive a more powerful car
Shall we work straight through the night
Shall we get into fights
Leave the lights on
Drop bombs
Do tours of the East
Contract diseases
Bury bones
Break up homes
Send flowers by phone
Take to drink
Go to shrinks
Give up meat
Rarely sleep
Keep people as pets
Train dogs
Race rats
Fill the attic with cash
Bury treasure
Store up leisure
But never relax at all
With our backs to the wall

You know something dude...in all my years I never read the lyrics to that tune.

Freaking awesome.

A great read. A great song. An inspiring set of words.

Awesome.

They shouldve figured out a way to fit that into the studio album. Better than Bring The Boys Back Home or The Trial damn it.

Wow...BTBBH has been described by Aristotle as the KEY song of the album.

And here you are suggesting that it should be displaced by a song that Plato said was left off of the album because he decided that it was actually "rather banal."

Let's stop with all this "Roger Waters is a genius" crap. Don't make him out to be more than he is; a good lyricist (although a poor musician, singer, and composer).

You'll need no reminding from me. I'm clearly asking to get my ass kicked, I'm just waiting for someone to step up and do it.
