Les Claypool Animals-Live

Post by Steph22 »

Normally I think that it is sacreligious to try to cover Pink Floyd, but Les Claypool performed the entire Animals album Live.

It is really good. I reccommend checking it out. I am not in any way shape or form a Primus fan either

It is called Les Claypool's Frog Brigade- Live Frogs Set 2.

claypool also does a rockin' version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond. I love to hear the bass groove so hard in the classic floyd track. Todd Huth does a fine job with the gilmour soloing as well.

Hey...I recently recorded two different versions of Les Claypool's
Frog Brigade version of Animals ... few points...\

first, Pink Floyd has been my favorite band since 1982...

Always liked Primus and other Les Claypool related stuff...

Very bold of ANYBODY to cover Pink Floyd...

Honestly, I liked it. Good rendition - faithful to the original,
I would recommend.

Other Pink Floyd covers : Voivod did a nice cover of
Astronomy Domini, it was worthy. I listened to the Australian
Pink Floyd band, and, well, the music was good, but that
lead singer should not sing on ANY SONG BY ANYONE.

There is another : An Italian band called Jennifer Gentle
Allende. They performed live at the Science Center
in Seattle in 2005. It accompanied a laser show. Their sound is like
1966 UFO Pink Floyd - blew me away! Of all Pink Floyd
cover bands, this is the one to check out.

Sorry Keith, that I have not posted in so long!

Not sure if JG is a Pink Floyd cover band persay, but they definitley have a Syd-like sound. Check out "Take My Hand".

That is my favorite song off that CD!! I have listened to other Kevin Ayers stuff and the good ones so far are Singing a Song in the Morning and Mr. Cool. Also the Soft Machine's I Should've Known is great.

Hey, Steph....

I was the one who mentioned the Kevin Ayers' song "Oh what a dream".
off that CD that came with a MOJO magazine. Here is a great one for
you:

I just went to the public library and picked up a copy of
"The Pink Floyd Encyclopedia" by Vernon Fitch.

I just picked it up to check it out, but it was an amazing book!
SO MUCH cool stuff about Floyd, stuff I have never heard before.
VERY worthwhile - check it out.

Ten years late for this thread, but I'm listening to this for the first time on youtube now.

It is a very good cover, but very close to the original. I think it's interesting how close to the original album it sounds given that there are only a small number of musicians. (Albeit, quite good ones.) I think there might be some sound effects on tape, but most of it sounds live.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kn66deEvUW8 - in case I'm not the last person in the world to hear it.
