The current competition is for a copy of Pink Floyd's A Momentary Lapse of Reason. The question is how many beds are there on the cover? I read in Storm Thorgerson's Mind Over Matter 4: The Images of Pink Floyd, and Vernon Fitch's Pink Floyd Encyclopedia that there are 700. However, Glen Povey in his Echoes Complete History of Pink Floyd and I think Nick Mason in his Inside Story of Pink Floyd mention 800 [link]!
So... do we know what the actual number was? I am inclined to go with Storm Thorgerson's 700 as he organised the photo shoot and got hold of the beds. I think he would know best!
Any thoughts?

Makes me wonder where all our poor NHS patients were lying down when they were taking the photo!

Re: How many bed on Momentary Lapse of Reason Cover?
matter of fact there are no beds on the momentary lapse of reason cover.
of course you probably mean how many beds were in the composition used on the cover really.

Oh well, Roger Waters fans hate that album, but you have to realize that is something more than just The Wall or Final Cut.

As a PINK FLOYD fan, can you please quit that clan shit finally, please? What does that got to do with this? This cover is better or what?JackRegan wrote:Oh well, Roger Waters fans hate that album, but you have to realize that is something more than just The Wall or Final Cut.
Storm is saying there are 700 beds on the beach. I would guess the guy knows what he is talking.
Anyway, here's the promo again, so yall can count:

There. You just came right out and admitted that you will not stop spamming the forum with your anti-Waters shit. I hope Mr. Jordan takes notice.JackRegan wrote:

Stop arguing and ruining another thread. Do it via PM or in a car park somewhere.
I am sticking with the 700 in the competition as nobody has offered any evidence otherwise.

Re: How many bed on Momentary Lapse of Reason Cover?
"Cover - A Momentary Lapse Of Reason
Pink Floyd - Saunton Sands, Devon
The cover shows 700 hospital beds placed on Saunton Sands, Devon. This effect was not achieved with trick photography; a team actually hauled the wrought iron beds over three hours from London to Devon and arranged them as seen on the finished design. When the team realised that the shoot would take more than one day, a single bed was left on the beach to see if the sea would have any effect on it over night. When they returned the following morning, the bed was nowhere to be found. Long-time Pink Floyd collaborator Storm Thorgerson produced the artwork.
In the sky in the backdrop there is a person flying a Hang Glider, probably a reference to Learning to Fly.
Storm Thorgerson comments the cover shot on his website: 700, yes 700, wrought iron hospital beds separately made up and positioned on the beach. Madness to do it at all, but we had in fact to do it twice cos it rained suddenly the first time, dank grey dizzle, and we couldn't see the distant half of the beds. "
700 beds. Or 699 maybe?

Excellent. 700 seems to me to be correct. That is an awful lot of beds. A "sea bed" indeed.
