David Gilmour Joined by Roger Waters to play Hoping event...

Post by Keith Jordan »

Gilmour Waters Hoping Charity 2010

David Gilmour and Roger Waters were re-united again last night to perform for a charity event in Kidlington in Oxfordshire, England. It was all in aid of the Hoping Foundation Benefit Evening on 10th July 2010 which was compared by Fearne Cotton!

They played four songs including ‘To Know Him Is To Love Him’, ‘Wish You Were Here’, ‘Comfortably Numb’ and ‘Another Brick in the Wall (Part Two)’.

They performed four songs before 200 guests, accompanied by Guy Pratt (on bass and acoustic guitar), Harry Waters (on keyboards), Andy Newmark (on drums), Chester Kamen (on guitar) and Jonjo Grisdale (also on keyboards).

The annual event is to raise money for Palestinian children to help give them a better life. HOPING stands for Hope and Optimism for Palestinians in the Next Generation.

David Gilmour played at the fundraiser event last year also on 19th June 2009. He was joined by model Kate Moss who gave an interesting performance! The 2010 performance the most significant though and raises questions about what we can expect in future!

Anyone heard about any audio or video showing up from the performance? Now that would be some good news! Or was it reported in the media at all on TV?

I just noticed that link on Facebook made by the Pink Floyd page with millions of connected people. Seems Polly's web server has been overwhelmed by it as it wont load for me. However, I can see from the number of people on this website (see the toolbar below) that people are searching for "Polly Samson Photos" or somesuch! I hope it doesnt take this sever down too, I just got it back online! <.8.>

As I said before The Big crash, theres a small possibility that any audio video exists from this event. Gilmour played on this event last year and nothing leaked. this party was full of posh brits with full pockets, rather then your everyday normal Floyd fans with bootlegging equipment. That includes tv crews.

I think that wifes from Dave and Rog had alot to do with that small reunion.
Both of them are under the great influence from them.
Wifes played the key role in getting them back together on live 8, not only Geldof.

Inside Gilmour and Waters' Surprise Pink Floyd Reunion
"Roger gave David a hug — it was really lovely," benefit organizer says
By Kevin O'Donnell
Jul 13, 2010 11:09 AM EDT

Over the weekend, Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and Roger Waters reunited to
perform four songs at an English benefit that raised money for young
Palestinian refugees, marking the first time the two played in public since
2005's Live 8 concert. Gilmour and Waters have had an acrimonious relationship
since they first split up in the '80s, but the co-organizer of the benefit,
Bella Freud, tells Rolling Stone that the two were in high spirits at the
show, which suggests the two might have finally buried the hatchet. "David
arrived first and then Roger came on and I saw Roger give David a hug," she
says. "It was really lovely."

While the reunion was unannounced, there were plenty of preparations going
into the event. Gilmour and Waters geared up for their short set by sound
checking "To Know Him Is to Love Him," "Comfortably Numb" and "Wish You Were
Here." "There were about 30 people milling about," Freud says. "Everyone
was just stunned." Freud also says she tried to get Gilmour and Waters to
perform together at a Hoping benefit show last year, but scheduling conflicts
prevented it from taking place. "There was the possibility of something
happening," she says. "David said he would do something and I asked Roger and
he said, 'I would definitely be up for it,' but he was away."

Gilmour and Waters were originally planning to play three songs. But one
attendee, British financier Arpad Busson, was so taken with the performance,
he donated £50,000 to get them to play "Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2."
"Some other people were also saying they'd give £200,000 for them to play
one more song," Freud adds. "People were crying — really! I know it sounds
corny, but it was magic. David and Roger — they looked so happy up there and
they made something so beautiful happen."

As Rolling Stone previously reported, Waters has said he asked Gilmour to
join 30th anniversary tour for The Wall, but Gilmour was "uninterested" in
the offer.

Nah, I don't think he'll play at any of Roger's shows because that's getting back into the 'which one is Pink' stuff. Last weekend's performance was just two musicians who happen to have been in Pink Floyd at some stage and who who were professional enough to play a few songs together and pose for photos.

Having said that, it is nice to see that they did play together again and it's an awful shame that no footage has surfaced for us ordinary people to see :( I think Damn!t's theory is correct - that at an event like this, you're not going to have people recording it for posterity.

a very nice sounding boot emerged from Rogers pro-fox-hunting Whip Craic benefit gig, and I'd think all the same arguments about posh old school landed gentry Brits with butlers would apply to that event as well

imagine having 50grand to hear the Floyd play a request! thats almost as good as paying a million to ride the Russian space shuttle

If I were this financier I wouldn't asked for this song.
Too bad he didn't choose something like Shine On or some earlier stuff...

But when I saw the first pictures, I was sure that it had been photoshoped! Really, I needed some time to believe that it really had happened!

Even though there are news on that on Google, it's not exactly crawling with them... no sign of audio/video at all :(

I'm calm enough to know we won't be seeing this event any time soon again, but it is great to see the Pink Floyd story finally has a happy ending as opposed to news of members dying.

I think a universe of <ii> is called for.
Well done to both!
