FORUM GOING DOWN - Transfer to new server

Just to keep you in the loop, I managed to sort the new server issues out I was having and have transferred all the site files over now. I just need to transfer the databases, email then configure all the software and security then I shall complete the move to new server.

Think I will try and complete the work this coming weekend.

I may actually get round to doing this tomorrow in which case I will need to take the forum down for a day or two.

What will you do instead???

Update: created all the databases on the new server. Just need to configure everything then I shall do the final transfer of the site...... this weekend.

We will see. This server is too bloody slow! Its taking ages for pages to load which is very bloody annoying indeed. The new server is twice as fast/big.

The weather has been too nice of late and I can't quite be arsed to do the transfer!

Assuming there are no major issues, I should get it done on Friday/Saturday I would think.

I am going to transfer the forum over to the new server today so there may be a few hours where the site is in maintenance mode. So, if you have anything you need to say on the forum, you should find an appropriate thread to say it on!

Putting the forum on the new server should mean the forum works nice and quick and not be sluggish like it usually is!

Seems just fine so far. I suppose the test will be when you are sending out the emails as that always seemed to slow it down a lot.

Yes, that does take some toll on the server. There are nearly 30,000 people on the newsletter list so takes lots of resources up!

I noticed that the new offline board message is missing the good old "Love Keith XXX" signature.

Yes, I had to change it sorry so I could tell which server the board was coming from! I will change it back at once for you.

Good results so far. No downtime for forum and the speed of the forum has increased by around 60% according to my server monitoring with www.pingdom.com.

I think on Sunday I will try and move the rest of the site over to the new server in anticipation for the busy period when Dark Side of the Moon immersion edition is released on 26th September.

I just thought you would like to know how our nice new server is performing.
