Wish You Were Here - 5.1 SACD On The Way
The long-awaited 5.1 version of ‘Wish You Were Here’, mixed by James Guthrie, will be released on 7th November 2011 via independent label Acoustic Sounds. So, all of you that bought an SACD player to listen to Dark Side of the Moon when that was released on SACD will have another disc to add to your collection!
I shall post more news about the SACD as it becomes available.

Do these discs sound any better on ordinary 5.1 systems ? I notice my Blu-Ray player doesn't support these apart from the normal CD layer of course.

I suppose they would sound better in 5.1, yes. Stereo gives a 180 degree sound I think whereas full surround on 6 channels gives a much more 360 degree immersing sound. Should be excellent to listen to welcome to the machine in 5.1! There would be few things cooler than that sound!

I suppose I'll have to get this too . It's a long way off being my favourite Floyd album but I'd want to hear how Shine On sounds.

I think a 5.1 system and the CD would make for a great NPF prize
This has been promised for a long time, hasn't it?

Sounds like a good idea to me. I will allow you the task of contacting lots of electrical retailers and getting one to offer one up as a prize in exchange for free promotion!
I am just listening to Wish You Were Here right now and am enjoying it, even if it is in stereo on my PC speakers! I do have a sub woofer to though so not too bad!

Will it really sound all that more exciting on 5.1? I don't own such a system so I'm mildly curious.

Yes, it was mixed looong ago, BUT, remember the issue with EMI was only recently sorted out with lawyers.snifferdog wrote:This has been promised for a long time, hasn't it?

So, has anyone pre-ordered the Hybrid SACD yet?
I believe the first two have rather high "minumum order values" or international postage so international (outside of USA) should perhaps check the third link first.

To buy or not to buy? If you are getting the WYWH Immersion edition then probably not as that has the James Guthrie 5.1 mix on it.

My view is simple, I bought the DSOTM sacd a few years ago and decided one day I'll get the proper equipment to play it, well I just did finished fitting it all and I can safely say you haven't heard PF until you hear what sacd can deliver, unbelievable, can't wait to hear WYWH and hope they do meddle, animals and wall.
Equipment is
Yamaha DVD-S2700/ AMPRX-V2065 SPks all big old Infinity kappa 80s/70s

Re: Wish You Were Here - 5.1 SACD On The Way
There was a recent demo at some hi-fi-like event in the USA recently, and so, some people have heard it on a serious system...one post on "Y" says that James Guthrie did say there will be a 5.1 Wall release during the Q&A...but, will it be in the Immersion box? The same poster said that the 5.1 panning is awesome!!!

Anyone see the updated photo on the Acoustic Sounds website?

It appears as if this WYWH SACD is going to be packaged very nicely...postcards, and...it seems to be all housed in a book-like or dvd-sized digipak of some sorts.

Re: Wish You Were Here - 5.1 SACD On The Way
Yes at long last WYWH SACD has been released. But not in the UK, unless you are rich enough to purchase the Immersion Box Sets!
I have a good job, and plenty of disposable cash, but £90 for multiple versions of a recording I already have just to get the 5.1 James Guthrie mix is just not going to happen!
When will record Co's realise that there is a market for 5.1 music in the UK? Dark Side SACD was a commercial success, yet the only option we have is to import from the USA, Minimum order $50 + UK import duty + VAT, again no matter how much I love it, I'm not going to spend that much.
I'll keep listening to the original quad mix until the record Co changes its mind.

Perhaps someone should buy in bulk and have a pallet shipped over and put in their garage ready to sell online to the UK market........
