I didn't actually buy it, it was a birthday present: Simple Minds - 5x (their first 5 albums remastered with bonus tracks)
They were a great band once...

I got that too recently :D . Hadn't been all that familiar with their early stuff but those early albums are worth a listen.

You're welcome. According to the guy from the recordstore her first album was also very nice, but I haven't heard that one...

Ian Anderson - Thick as a Brick 2...haven't listened to the whole thing yet...it's not bad, pleasant enough listening, but Anderson can't craft memorable melodies like he used to.

About Thick As A Brick 2...I have it. I have semi listened to it a few times. I am just not sure about it being a sequel of sorts. Maybe it is a good thing that it is not a Jethro Tull album. However, as a solo album and ignoring its relationship to the original album, it is not a bad Ian Anderson solo album.

It's growing on me, but you are right, it is not really much of a sequel to the original. The lyrics of the original, first of all, were supposed to be a poem written by this (fictitious) 8 year old kid named Gerald Bostock. This sequel is about Gerald himself, and where he ended up in life. Musically, other than a few references, it isn't much of a sequel either. It's not nearly sonically inventive as the original. Nor is it as coherent. The original gelled together as one whole piece of music (or two, if you consider its two sides), whereas this is, not surprisingly, just a bunch of shorter songs. And without Martin Barre, it doesn't really sound like a Jethro Tull album. Not that it was supposed to be, it is not labelled as such, but it is labelled as an Ian Anderson solo album, which it really is. Throwing aside the sequelized title, it is a nice enough solo effort. But it is clear that Mr. Anderson has no new tricks up his sleeve.

On another note, I picked up the CD of Astra's The Black Chord. I previously only had it as mp3's. My god, what a difference! It sounds so much better. Now I am beginning to appreciate it much more.
