The Water Song :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21hXdpnHug4

Lyrics:

Water water see the water flow
Glancing dancing see the water flow
O wizard of changes water water water
Dark or silvery mother of life
Water water holy mystery heavens daughter

God made a song when the world was new
Waters laughter sings it is true
O, wizard of changes, teach me the lesson of flowing

Some of my favourites, in no particular order (and not necessarily all inclusive)

Hawkwind - Doremi Fasol Latido and Space Ritual
The Small Faces - Odgen Nut's Gone Flake
Ultimate Spinach - Ultimate Spinach
Can - Tago Mago
Jefferson Airplane - After Bathing At Baxters
The Flower Travellin' Band - Satori
Comus - First
H.P. Lovecraft - H.P. Lovecraft and II
Pink Floyd - More and Umma Gumma
Brainticket - Cottonwoodhill
The Moody Blues - In Search of the Lost Chord
Gong - Flying Teapot (Radio Gnome Invisible Vol. 1)
Steve Miller Band - Children of the Sun, Number 5
Ash Ra Tempel - Schwingungin, Starring Rosi
Tangerine Dream - Alpha Centauri
Love - Forever Changes
The Grateful Dead - Anthem of the Sun and Live Dead
Donovan - Sunshine Superman and Hurdy Gurdy Man
The Far East Family Band - Nippojin: Join Our Mental Phase Sound
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland

And special mention to one of my all time favourite pyschedelic albums:
The Spacious Mind - Mind of a Brother...but since we can't go past 1975 and this came out in 1999, it's not officially on the list. (there are many, many more post '75 albums I would put on my list)

Album of the week...one of the trippiest albums ever recorded (not to mention one of the trippiest album covers ever)...
Brainticket - Cottonwoodhill

First time I heard of them. Honestly I couldn't stand the long "epic" track from Cottonwoodwill album, the one where the lady moans and delivers a lot of new age jibberish. But this other song is kinda nice, and the album has a better cover too: brains that turn into large intestines! Quite a bold commentary about psychedelic lyrics?

Is Shocking Blue considered psycheledic? I like their second album "At Home". For me they are like the dutch version of the Jefferson Airplane, with Mariska Veres following the steps of Grace Slick quite ...gracefully.

Quite nice drum and bass work there. "Poor Boy" is another favourite, very reminiscent of Interstellar Overdrive, but with a little bit of country feel added to the mix. And the closing track the Butterfly and I has some dreamy vocal harmonies in the chorus, too bad they ruin it with that oh so psychedelic nonsense at the end.

I liked Cottonwoodhill. Very experimental, weird music.

Can early King Crimson be considered psychedelic? Some of their songs are surely very dreamy!

For those who know a bit of studio jargon and effects, could you tell me whether there is any difference between phasing and flanging ? (Both a studio effects that add more psychedelic-ness to the music).

Both are basically time delay effects. But while flanging applies the time delay to the whole signal, phasing applies different time delays to different frequencies of the original signal, thus resulting in a more "jumbled" sound.

And regarding Crimson, I think they lacked that element of whimsiness and extraversion that was so characteristic of psychedelic music. Their music has always been very cerebral and restrained, not kaleidoscopic at all.

Now, does a mock psychedelic album counts for the top ten? Personally I think it's one of the best psychedelic albums, if not the best from that period, perhaps second only to Piper, but it so full of cynicism and satire, that I don't know if fans would consider it part of their beloved "movement":

It does qualify, and an excellent psych album it is.

My album recommended for the coming week:

1) Mr Fantasy by Traffic - Great debut.

The psych album for the week - Strange Days by The Doors. I really love thee dark sound, much more psychedelic than their debut.
