IMHO, "Shine On" Part 1 isn't really a great musical moment. It does sound good but it doesn't need much technical ability for playing. The same goes for "Violent Sequence" which I do like very much.

I think Rick's best has been recorded on "Is There Anybody Out There?".

It's simple enough to play, but that doesn't make it a second-rate musical moment. Simple but emotive, wistful and hopeful, it's a beautiful piece of music. I agree about the "violent sequence", another great piece - anyone know if it's available anywhere as it was written originally rather than the DSOTM version?

ABSOLUTELY!!
If you wouldn't mentioned it I would have been the first... :)
I think it's a shame that they never played that part live in the last years. Even when Gilmour played Part 2, the ending with the lovely sad keyboard solo was not there :(

btw...WHAT Keyboard Rick used on part I and Part IX? I think I only heard that sound on SOYCD, Sheep and Wearing the inside out.
And what sound is the "turkish delight"?

My username.

Also I love his spaced out organ on Cirrus Minor, it's like it's just floating away....

Other than that, probably Time, Echoes and The Violent Sequence.

His organ solo on Matilda Mother is awesome, btw.

His vocals on "Remember a Day" and the early live versions of "Atom Heart Mother" and "Great Gig in the Sky" in general are the first that come to mind for me. His voice can border on haunting despite his lack of confidence in his singing, and "Great Gig" is probably one of the greatest achievements of his entire career.

I love "The Great Gig In The Sky", "Summer '68" and SOYCD parts VIII and IX (8 and 9) but nobody has spoken up for
Sysphus! And thanks to it's wiki page, I can pinpoint which parts I like.

Part one consists of an overture featuring timpani and Mellotron chords resembling an orchestra. This segues into a piano solo that dissolves into a raucous, dissonant performance as Sisyphus struggles up the hill. Part two features a piano having its strings plucked and strummed alongside percussion and tape effects of sped-up voices. Brief moments of musical calm appear in part three, as Sisyphus reaches the top of the hill; this section features a soft keyboard and organ piece with birds chirping. This lull is immediately followed by part four; a thunderous orchestral crescendo, representing the boulder falling back down the hillside. The theme of part one resurfaces as the end, indicating that Sisyphus is pushing the large rock up the hill once more.

I love parts one, three and four. Part two is just too goofy for me.
