Could someone please tell me what song it is on this DVD that David supposedly responds to someone in the audience asking him to do a certain Floyd song. He responds by saying something, just not sure what. I saw it on Youtube a long while back, but cannot find it.

I myself cannot remember what he said but I rated this a 4. I really like it, especially Dimming of the Day which is an excellent song and a very nice cover here. 8)

My memory is that somebody requested one of the long songs (maybe Echoes?), and David replies along the lines of, no, because they would be there so long and be "turfed out" before it ends...something like that...I haven't watched in a looong time.

Not a great "album" cover... it looks like Gilmour is giving birth to something, rather painfuly.

Still not got this even though I was there at the time. Must get this soon.

Someone shouted out "When's the next Floyd album". Dave shouted back "Who gives a f***".

I remember this was during the days of usenet and it got discussed for months afterwards

Nasally Fan: "Do something from 'Animals' please?"
David: "We'd still be here after turf out time if we did that."

I've only recently viewed the About Face tour and know the audio of Live in Gdansk more than the DVD. And I've only recently discovered there was a 2006 release also but this performance has stayed in the memory ever since I saw it on the telly back in the day. My main memories are of the acoustic Shine On You Crazy Diamond which was exemplary as well as Fat Old Sun and Smile. Top marks :)

"Play something from 'Animals' please?"
That would be author, Glenn Povey.

I still like this a lot. It's fun to hear how some Pink Floyd songs sound "unplugged". I really like the intro to Shine On... where it's not clear at the start if he's just noodling around with the guitar or is actually playing something meaningful. The cover versions are pretty good too. It's not every day that you'll hear someone cover Bizet, Richard Thompson and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in the one set  I don't care for the two renditions of Comfy Numb though. Neither Robert Wyatt nor Bob Geldof do it justice.

It also proved to be something of a template for his On An Island tour..digging up old Pink Floyd songs that hadn't been played in eons, a couple of Syd Barrett songs and getting Rick out of the house to sing something.

Actually, the Floyd's touring history from 1972 through 1994 (with a brief exception in '73) was the template for OAI. New songs in the 1st set and previous stuff for the 2nd set and encore.

Bob Geldof didn't really sing the song well at all, ok he may not have sung it much since he made The Wall film, but surely he could have put in more effort, and that is really highlighted when Gilmour sings the chorus, Gilmour's voice is miles better than Geldof. I really love the unplugged version of Shine On :) I was at the Meltdown show too, and I also remember Salmon Rushdie being in the audience, I would never have him down as a Floyd fan.

I gave it a 5. For me, there isn't a weak song in the set, and this time around, it's all about David Gilmour. It's not just him playing Pink Floyd tunes. He threw in a number of covers (and an aria!) that identifies his taste in music and where much of his inspiration comes from. As a result, there's a lot of soul and warmth to the set. Probably one of the most personal concerts performed by any Pink Floyd member.

Bonus for it being an acoustic set. I'm a sucker for things like that.
