As it turned out, I was just being exceedingly dim when I said the site didn't work. I thought the forum itself had been turned into a mobile friendly one, when it was the homepage of the site itself that it was referring to 
It doesn't do it on iPads as far as I can see but I don't consider it to be an issue to be honest.
