New early PF tribute band Intersteller Emily

Post by redspecialist »

Hello!

My new PF tribute band Interstellar Emily have thier first gig at the Port Mahon in Oxford, UK on the 22nd. of June. We play stuff from Piper through Meddle, so we're a bit different from the usual! This is us in our previous guise as Dark Side Of The Room:

Echoes is one of the only songs we're keeping from the old set...

It would be great to see some of you Syd/early Gilmour fans there!

If I wanted to pick holes, I would say that there should be a Farfisa organ on Echoes part II, not a Hammond. That wider 'string pad' tone on Echoes is just a Farfisa with the Binson echorec adding a tiny bit of modulation and a lot of echo. When you don't change notes, and have no field of reference, you don't hear individual repeats as much as a wash of sound. Vangelis did this a lot on his early stuff.

Other than that it is fine! I saw somebody pulled up the vocals on Youtube as needing a polish. I disagree. This sounds like English guys with no formal training singing naturally. Most tribute bands have a glitzy singer throwing in all sorts of inflections and things that don't sound Floydian. Listen to Echoes from the BBC 1971 recording; the vocals are weak and shaky. This is how it should be!

Sounds great! Interesting how you included the sax in there at the end.

Thanks! Sadly it wasn't our idea: they did it in '74!

You're allright!
1000 times better then aussie floyd type of bands that heard only Pulse from Floyd and play only every note from it, missing the whole point of a band called Pink Floyd.

Rock on boys, and girl. :)
