There will be a new album

Post by Bigmanpigman »

Some interesting stuff to come in a BBC interview with Roger to be broadcast on September 19th, including the fact that he's got ideas for a new album -

Given Roger's interest in Middle Eastern politics, perhaps his album will be quite like this....

I can't remember where I read that he was working on a song that started "If I were God..."
I would love to see where it takes him. But I would buy and listen anything by him, even if he just sings Happy Birthday out of tune :D

Looks like he has done a BBC Hardtalk interview. Knowing that they are generally very political and personal etc, this should be very interesting to watch. I don't always share Rogers politics but find him very articulate.

We will have to see. He talks about 'a strong idea' (ie a concept) and 'one more record'. Personally I feel that his strong work ethic along with his ego will drive him to put together another album before he is too old to do it.

I really hope he starts recording soon. As far as I know, he is just finishing up now his 3 year old tour, and I’m not ready to see the guy retire completely.

I suspect the new album will be quite political, but I’m kind of hoping its more than just that.

According to Rolling Stone, Roger has finished a demo of his new album.
"I finished a demo of it last night," he tells Rolling Stone. "It's 55 minutes long. It's songs and theater as well. I don't want to give too much away, but it's couched as a radio play. It has characters who speak to each other, and it's a quest. It's about an old man and a young child trying to figure out why they are killing the children."
It sounds like a lot like his song Leaving Beirut, which I loved. The development of the plot with the dialogue and all.

He's also not refusing the idea of touring again, and also reviving The Wall (good or bad idea, I'd love to see it again!)

Excellent news though!!

I was just reading on the Guardian about that.

Looks like 2014 will be fun: new Gilmour album, new Waters album, The Wall Live BluRay.... and then there is still some stuff from the archives they can throw on the market (DSoT BluRay, i want it!)

Oh Roger! Haven't you learn anything on the last 20 years? It's the songs what matter the most, not some cheesy heavy handed concept!

Sorry for the double post, but I just remembered something interesting in the latest video on Roger's Facebook page.

He's in, what looks like a studio, or at least some variation of one. Maybe that means he's recording the album, or mixing it. I'm probably clutching at straws, and having blind hope, but you never know there might be something in it.

Also, the version of Hey You in the background sounds very much like the recent tour, so maybe that's another signal that The Wall Live DVD/CD is being mixed too. But again I'm probably clasping at something that isn't there.

Thoughts?

:)
