I love Rick's first solo album, and of course his work with Pink Floyd, but this album just does nothing for me. Don't get me wrong, I love music that's all about rhythm and texture, but the rhythms I find limp and the textures here just boring. Not so much a development of texture but hit the warm pad present on the synth and play a chord. I respect Rick greatly as a musician, but I don't think he put much effort into this one.

Yeah, Rick's first album is better. It has dated though.

What I do like though is when he performed Breakthrough with David Gilmour and sang the song himself.

This album is way too overrated, in my opinion. Not such big deal, is it?

I voted it a 3. Solid album, but pretty uninspiring.

re-listened to it after a loooong time. I have to say 85% of it is horrible filler. That was no fun listening to that again. :smt102

Wish I could like this more, and I wish more of it could be like Breakthrough. Rated it 3.

Habour Wall may be the best solo single by any member.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I rank this in my top five favorite albums of all time, from any artist ever. I just love everything about it, and the only possible improvement it could have had would have been having Rick sing the lead vocals on "Breakthrough" himself.

This is a good album, but it's a way to dark and mournful, IMO.

This album was interesting for me, because it was the first Floyd solo album I listened to where the artist actually stepped away from the Pink Floyd sound entirely. Waters and Gilmour's solo work is sprinkled with the signature pieces of the Floydian ideas, but this album steps away from that. A little half-baked? Probably. But it shows one of the Pink Floyd members dancing with world and electronica ideas, and that was really interesting to hear. These electronica musings were later developed when The Orb remixed 'Runaway', on a side note.
All in all, I reckon it's a good album, despite possible issues in how it was produced. There's a clear story in it (unlike Gilmour's work), but it has nothing to do with politics (unlike Waters' work). It doesn't fail to evoke emotion in me whenever I listen to it, and is actually quite beautiful, especially the fourth... act? Part? Whatever. It's pretty fantastic nonetheless.
I gave it a four. Whilst I was initially disappointed with some of the composition (why, Rick? You're better than this!), but once I got over that I was able to find the gem under the rough. It's beautiful, and I would have loved to hear a follow up, as I'm sure it would have developed the electronica/world musings a lot more and made it more complete.

Have only heard a preview of it, but I want to hear the whole album, because I've been enjoying "Wearing the Inside Out" lately.

I've never been much impressed by this apart from 'Breakthrough'. However, I heard a few songs recently and want to re-evaluate it. Problem is: I don't know where my copy is and it's not on Spotify :)
