Make Your Own Live 8 Set List

Post by ZiggyZipgun »

Let's hear what you would have picked, with the luxury of hindsight, to fill their 20-minute time slot at Live 8. And....go!

A Spanish Piece (1.05)
The Happiest Days of Our Lives (1.46)
Pigs on the Wing (Part 2) (1.24)

One of the Few (1.23)
A New Machine (Part1) (1.46)

I know, right? "One Of These Days" etc. If ever there was a song to kick off "This is Pink Floyd... Back on stage!!" it was the opening cut off Meddle!

If I was Dave, I would have gotten Rog to play on a song from AMLoR or TDB. Perhaps 'Lost for Words'. But, Dave is a bigger man than I am :D

I was going to theorize a set of medleys, including "One of The Days"/"Marooned", and "Time"/"Remember a Day" (in place of "Breathe Reprise"). Needs some work yet.

Maybe if the set was:

Stay
Summer '68
Remember a Day
See-Saw

then the camera operator would have eventually worked out that Rick is a member of Pink Floyd.

I easily forget that Roger wrote the lyrics to "Stay". I would gladly swap it out for "Paintbox".

You are right actually. I just watched Live8 again, with focus on Rick. The thing is Rick didn't sung lead vocals, and he was simply out of camera focus because of that. When the cameraman did not have David or Roger in a frame singing, and when a camera panned over the audience, Rick was visible. During the Comfortably Numb solo per instance, the camera was on Rick several times.

They did say that most of the rehearsals was spent just trying to get Roger to play their versions of those four songs, rather than how he'd been playing them on his solo tours. But since he was just playing bass or rhythm guitar, what could he have been doing differently (besides pantomime)?

I know I've already mentioned my ideal setlist, but after more review this is my selection:

One of These Days
Time
The Happiest Days of Our Lives
Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)
Wish You Were Here
Comfortably Numb

Come to think of it One of These Days would've been a terrific and explosive return to the stage of Pink Floyd, particularly if it was played in the same vein as it was on The Division Bell tour. Time was simply a must in my opinion, and being left out of the original setlist was a crime in my opinion. I know my selection has probably gone over the 20 minutes limit, but as I said in another thread if my memory serves me correctly Floyd eventually went on stage really late. So time keeping was definitely not on track that evening... :-;
