A lot less poppy than Rattle That Lock or even Blue Light don't think about the dancers in boiler suits don't think about- Gah! Too late!
Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.
As nearly all Gilmour songs it is ok-ish if you don´t pay attention to the lyrics. Musically nothing really surprising, nothing really bad. Nothing I will remember in three months probably.
My favorite thing about "Rattle That Lock" was that it didn't at all sound like a retread of "On An Island," it sounded like a progression. To me, this song sounds like a natural progression from "Rattle That Lock."
I would say that Gilmour is charting a path forward rather than resting on his laurels. Which we would all probably be somewhat okay with, so long as it wasn't complete dross.

...a solid song that adds to his oeuvre.
Not to mention his canon of work. Maybe not quite standard repertoire level, though.
Metallica has released three stellar studio releases in a row, and whilst all of them have some great songs, there's not a single top five song amongst them, and that's fine.
Those records are bangers, like Pink Floyd and Alumni, they have released some top five all time songs in their genre.
I love On An Island and David Gilmour ST, but I wouldn't even call those top fives and that's fine too.
I had listened to it a couple of times when it was first released, and had no desire to listen to it again until the album comes out, but i gave it another listen before responding to this thread.
I don't think it's a track I would skip when listening to the full album, but it really doesn't grab me in any way. The guitar solo at the end is disappointing.
