Things that really annoy you?

Talk about anything in here from the price of tea to the state of the economy!

Christmas nights out. Seriously I had to go on a couple with work. The first one is ok as it was just our wee area that was out, but the 2nd one was for the whole directorate within the area I work.

Socialising with people from work is bad. Drinking with your bosses, like Casual Friday, is a clumsy attempt to make work something it isn't; easy and painless. In the stiff corporate environment you cannot suddenly turn it into a love-in by making it unofficially possible to wear slightly less formal clothes one day of the week. Remember, these are your bosses. These are the guys with the P45s in their desks. When the shit hits the fan they will turn on you. If they are ok as people then fair enough, but taking up MY FREE TIME spending time with people that control my pay and employment is double-sided at best. You have to take all their cues from them and hope for the best.

I don't want to seem ungrateful, but the deal with work is that it shouldn't follow you home. If you get on with the people you work with socially this is an unintended and unplanned bonus to the job. However there is only so much small talk you can draw out of proceedings, even if you are bevvied up. Fuck up around these people when drunk and you will be out the door, or at least have a red mark next to your name.

The moron I have to work with (captain Aspergers) thinks that socialising with the bosses is the best thing ever. However he is painfully sycophantic (though socially inept) so would probably eat his own shit if he thought it would engraciate him with the fuhrers in any greater way. This is painfully obvious as he tries far too hard. He does not understand why I don't want to spend my free time with the people that dish out the workload and decide if we get to stay in employment. He is a moron though, as I previously said.

And what happens if one of your bosses is a letch, says something racist or homophobic, starts hitting on other staff? There is nothing you can do to come back on that. I'm lucky that this didn't happen (though one of the guys from the directorate was a bit too interested in making sure we always had a drink at hand), but it easily could and there would be no way of getting back from that.

If office Christmas parties were trouble-free events, it'd leave a lot of journalists/columnists scratching their heads and wondering what to write about this time of the year. Mixing work and pleasure is never a good idea.

Allman Brothers Blues Band. They really bore the shit out of me. How standard blues music that has its innards streched to untolerable extremes can be labelled as good bewilders me. Plus, their Live At The Fillmore East is said to be one of the greatest live albums ever (as is another overrated load of crap - Live/Dead). Together, the Grateful Dead (not so much as the latter, though) and the Allman Brothers Blues Band symbolize to me the bane of music. I have zero tolerance for generic bands like this. This is the kind of shit that I hate about so called "jam rock".

Unmannerly, crass gfs who try to ruin long distance platonic relationships from across 1000 miles by threatening and attacking people and their intimates whom they don't even know by messaging them and trying to cause problems.

It is one thing to be so juvenile as to message a platonic friend of your bf with threats, but to attack that person's lover and message them as well? And to do so through multiple personalities and accounts? Obviously, someone doesn't actually understand the whole concept of 'adult'.

Oh, and reading their bfs emails behind their backs while telling that person how they don't care and trust them implicitly. Perhaps I misunderstand the word 'trust' *shrug*

The only thing I can feel for this unbalanced soul is pity. I wish the bf all the luck in the world cuz he's going to need it. I don't need these kinds of stressors in my life. I have enough to manage without trying to care about someone whose intimate is bent on wrecking my life. Good luck, friend.

People who have 'read the book'. Somebody casually mentions they might go and see Life of Pi in the cinema and some smug asshole will automatically say "oh, I've read the book". Talk about how Game of Thrones is dull and drawn-out and somebody will smugly remind you that "I read all the George RR Martin books so I know what is going to happen".

Guess what. I don't fucking care.

Yeah. That kind of elitism turns me off (though I admit that I may be like that at times). It's ok to plainly state it sometimes but nothing to be proud or cocky about.

People who pronounce "Van Gogh" as "Van Go". If you were Dutch you would pronounce it "Van Hoch" with the "ch" sound being the same as "Loch" or "Bach". The English might say "Van Gock", the Scottish might say "Van Goch", but the sound would be the same. Then you hear some ditsy blonde American girl saying "my favorite artist is Vincent Van Go" and you want to kick some teeth in.
