This is VERY true about Roger. David's voice is very soothing though. So's Rick Wright's.Tommy wrote:i enjoy rogers voice more because he puts great emphasis and emotion into his singing, but i do think that david has a great voice, it sounds almost perfect in the studio, and still pretty damn good live

David definately has the better voice in terms of vocal quality, Roger however compensates for his limited singing talents with his far more emotive style.
I often associate David (and Rick's) vocals with their early 70's "ethereal" sound when their vocals were more mellow and airy, (esp. Meddle) while Roger's vocals make me think of the later, more political Floyd that began with Animals, or even WYWH.

I think Roger has a better voice 'cause he can put more in to it and live it sounds better. Dave's voice though is perfect for the songs he does but unlike Roger i feel he can only do a certian style of song.
Aside from his vocal on NNJ i don't think Dave could do anything like TFC, he suits more laid back things like WYWH and the chorus to Mother. Roger on the other hand can do any musical style and sound angry to, Dave just sounds to warm to be angry.
Both brilliant though. Dave particularly shines on TDB where his voice became more of an instrument.

Although I really do love David's voice, especially on earlier recordings (a
VOIO I have where he's singing Flaming is even better than Syd's original, although I do love Syd's too), I'll go with Roger as my favorite for the reasons stated above...more range of emotion.
While David makes you think "he sings very well and has a great voice" (although on some ROIOs I've heard in the later 70s it sounds way too harsh, deep and strained), Roger's voice GETS to you, from a whisper to a scream. And even on songs where there isn't that emotional range, like FreeFour or Biding my Time, there is still something about his voice...I can't explain it...it's comfortable to me.
I like Syd's voice too. It's so British. In fact, that's one thing I've noticed about PF is that they sound more British than other British bands. Maybe that's why I like them because I'm an anglophile.
